Mangaluru, Mar 9: The city and surrounding places experienced good rainfall on Wednesday March 8 morning.

Intermittent rains were experienced in a number of places right from 2 am. The light drizzle turned into downpour between 5 am and 6.30 am.

Even though the rain has brought down the temperature by a few notches, the affect could be reversed because of hot sun unless more rains are received. Currently the area is enveloped in cloudy weather.

For the last some weeks, the coastal belt was reeling under scorching heat as the sun has been shining brightly right from around 10 am. Yesterday too, the hot and humid condition in coastal Karnataka was unbearable and the people were fondly wishing that it would rain and provide them reprieve from the hot climate.

The meteorological department had predicted some rains to be experienced in the south interior Karnataka and the coast apart from some north Karnataka districts between March 9 and 12 because of depression that has been created over the Bay of Bengal.

50 years back used to feel the cool sea breeze sitting on the lush green lawns of Tagore park (bavta gudda) enjoying churmura and a glass of cold sugarcane juice. Gone are those wonderful days

Unseasonal rains are not good for human health; these rains will be followed by intense, intolerable heat! Once a calm and beautiful place has been made bald to make place for a concrete jungle. I think Mumbai has much better green cover in patches than Mangalore.

Once upon a time in Mangalore had banyan trees and many rain bearing trees which kept temperature not exceeding 30 degrees. In the process of unplanned development these trees were culled mercilessly. Now the environment is treating us mercilessly. It's high time we plant rain bearing trees and apologize to mother nature

Even the city was full of coconut palms which have almost disappeared now. Walking the streets of Mangalore, feeling the cool breeze was a pleasure during summer.

God is so merciful. He keeps blessing ungrateful humans time and again. Partly may be for the innocent animals and vegetation who have no part to play but suffer the atrocities of humans.
