Mangaluru: Tree falls on lorry due to heavy rain, providential escape for driver

Mangaluru, Mar 9: A huge tree located in Rozario Road near State Bank here got uprooted due to rainfall experienced by the city on Wednesday March 9.

Luckily there was no movement of people around the tree when it came down. The tree fell on a lorry. The lorry driver, Purushotham Shale, who sensed that the tree was about to crush the lorry, jumped out and saved his life.

The tree fell along with the compound wall of BSNL. The falling tree inflicted huge damage to the lorry that had been parked by the roadside at that time. The tree covered the entire road on which it fell down. The road was empty when the tree came crashing.

The fire brigade at Pandeshwar took steps to clear the tree from the road. Pandeshwar police look up traffic control at the spot. Mescom staff took measures to sever power supply to the area.

    Thank God driver had alucky day and escape.It is the responsibility of Mangalore city corporation that no tree branches extend to the road and threat to the people or vehicles occur,.How come they neglect such a thing Even Mescom has to see that during Monsoon no wires on trees etc Pass through.Mostly in villages happens many casualties .People die because wires are fallen on trees or road with current .

    Apart from planting trees, environmentalis have the responsibility of maintaing them so that such incidents do not occur.

    Weather forecast said slight drizzle expected. Is the impact so huge with a slight drizzle? Wondering whether nature's fury was more than expected...seems the trees were already overage waiting to be trimmed/axed. Anyway, fortunate lucky driver...second life for him😳
