Mangaluru, Mar 11: Several outlets of the popular shopping mall group Big Bazaar are being shut, but no one knows why. Crores of people loved shopping at Big Bazaar. Now with several of its outlets shut down, consumers are wondering what could be the exact reason and several theories are emerging.
The coastal region has witnessed the closure of several Big Bazaar outlets for the past couple of days. For the consumers sharing an emotional bond with Big Bazaar the closure has been painful.
Rumours are agog that the Big Bazaar and Future Group have been taken over by Reliance Group. It is being said that it will be opened under a different name.
Some claim that Big Bazaar is running under losses and hence it has been shut. It is said that a year ago, the sale of Big Bazaar had been discussed with the Reliance Group. The Big Bazaar outlets had stopped stocking the products also apparently.
Big Bazaar staff when questioned about this claimed that they had to clear the stock as Reliance would take over it. They were also heard saying that the stocks must be cleared within three months. Products of Reliance company will arrive soon, claimed a few staff. However, about three to four months ago sufficient stocks had arrived in the outlets. But the usual crowd at Big Bazaar had reduced. It is also being said that Reliance is preparing to attract consumers and enter the market in a big way and hence shops have been shut.
Anyhow, the credit of introducing the mall culture to the coastal belt goes to Big Bazaar. Several people used to throng the outlets to spend their weekends. Later, with several other malls coming up, Big Bazaar started losing its crowd, it is said.
