Bantwal: Buses compete, race, brush against one another – Case filed

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Mar 12: In an incident which horrified the passengers of two buses, the bus drivers raced their buses as if they were in a car race, and stopped only after the driver of one of these buses brushed his vehicle against the other. This incident happened on Friday March 11 on Vittal-Salethur road.

The people are extremely angry at the way the lives of the passengers were exposed to danger by these two drivers. They have demanded for stern action against the erring buses’ staff and owners.

As these two buses were vying with each other and driving at breakneck speed, the other vehicles on the road also turned jittery. In order to stop the other bus from moving ahead, the driver of another bus came at high speed from behind and caused his bus to bang into the other bus. Passengers in both the buses raised an alarm at this as they were overtaken with fear for their lives. Luckily, the buses were damaged in the incident and the passengers escaped unhurt. Shocked passengers then took other vehicles to reach their destinations.

For the last one year tough competition has been witnessed frequently in the Vittal-Salethur-Mudipu-Mangaluru section. Sometime back, due to cut throat competition, an accident had happened at Moorakaje within the limits of Vittal police station, and angry locals had blocked the buses by parking their personal vehicles across the road till the policemen came.

Due to the said incident, the buses got stranded in the middle of the road and other vehicles had to struggle to pass the spot.

The two buses had about 50 passengers. Vittal police visited the spot and took the buses into their possession. A case of reckless and negligent driving has been filed. Deputy commissioner of transport in Mangaluru, Ramesh Varnekar, assured to keep an eye on private buses posing risk to people's lives and stressed that the erring buses will face strict action.

Most of them are from NK and they don't have any consideration for passengers; actually before induction they should be given a 3 month etiquette training, also drivers on how to drive over speed breakers, etc; also strict disciplinary action on erring staff. In absence of this, these junglee people will never improve.

One yearns there were train services in the coastal belt like in Bombay. Unfortunately, no one seems to have given a thought OR there doesn't seem to be any provision. Else the spinal cord of this mafia nexus would be dislocated forever. Just a wishful thinking.🤔

KSRTC drivers are a junglee lot. They have their own ethics. Looks like they're following the "skills" of the local buses and want to be "eagerly recognised". They care a damn even if they drive speedily over the speed breakers at Bantwal Toll Naka between Farangipet and Tumbhay as if in a hurry to go to a crematorium/graveyard or something like that. A pregnant women in advanced stages of delivery need not even go to a hospital since the 🚌 is being remote controlled by stunts of dare devilry tricks and somersaulting.

The drivers/conductors of these buses don't have any basic manners or training on how to operate a public bus service system. Their only aim is to increase the income at whatever cost; even if the bus is faulty they will run it. All public should get together and force the administration to shut down this nuisance forever and start a dedicated city bus service; till such time many an innocent life would be lost to these senseless operators!

Please do abolish the private bus mafia in the twin districts, it will be so safe to travel then. The law makers are also part and parcel of this killer bus mafia. Why cannot we have Government buses?

These killer pvt buses should be banned and a dedicated bus system like that of BEST in Mumbai should be started, no use shouting; the bus cartel is very strong as they grease the palms of the authorities to keep their mouths shut. I don't see any improvement happening soon; one of the worst places, no development on any front but only sweet talks and making fools of the general public.

They put several Gods names for the buses. Unfortunately they don't behave in respect of them. Pushing the lives of the passengers is grave mistake should be punished under strict actions. Prayaanikare Devaru but they are pushing those gods to taste death!!

Compulsion of business or show of vehemence among drivers is difficult to tell... But lives of commuters are unnecessarily at risk... Bus lobbies always protect the drivers even in fatal accidents... This trend is not new but from decades in and around here... Temporary hue and cry will not help matters in the long run... But may thaw down the blood rush in drivers' veins for now...

This is not the first time. We have to blame our RTO, TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT, AND ADMINISTRATION. Playing with the life of passengers means, they must punish, those drivers must remember till they drive or life time jail. Luckily no damage . And this should be a lesson to not only drivers but also to RTO, ADMINISTRATION AND TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT.

It's quite a common scenario in Udupi Mangalore road. Drivers drive recklessly and they don't even remember that there are people inside the bus. Also, people shut their mouths until an accident happens. After the accident, they will throw stones, burn the busses. Traffic police who will be on duty see the movie of racing and enjoy.. later when something happens they come to the point and do their duty of collecting all info, book a case and go to their home and have a good sleep.. This is what's happening everywhere in India. No law and even people enjoy this thing unless something happens to them or their dear ones.

Reminds me of an incidence a many years back while i was travelling by bus to mangalore from Udupi. The Driver was very careless, I called the conductor and complained. He asked me to get down in the next stop and catch another bus. Before he finished the sentence the bus hit a car in front so hard that the car got toppled. And believe me, in a minute the driver and the conductor were no where to be seen!!!!

"I called the conductor and complained. He asked me to get down in the next stop and catch another bus"..😁😁😁.....this sentence gave me a hearty laugh ...thanks for narrating...😂😂🤩... Jokes apart....Swamyji, this is everyday's phenomenon here....People have to travel holding their breaths and even while getting in...they start with such a brake, cannot balance and enter the bus. What about the fate of our elders? I started joint pains traveling IN OUR LOVELY BUSES. Dictor says, he cannot find the Nut bolts of the shoulders....where they moved !!!!
