Mangaluru: Day-long national conference 'Yuva Porzoll’ inaugurated

Mangaluru, Mar 12: 'Yuva Porzoll-2022', a day-long national conference organised by the Konkani Adhyayana Peeta (Study Chair) of Mangalore University in collaboration with St Aloysius College(Autonomous) was inaugurated on Saturday March 12 at LCRI Hall on the premises of St Aloysius College.

Konkani poet Jason Sequeira Gurpur inaugurated the event symbolically by beating 'ghumot'.

Dr Jayavantha Nayak, coordinator of Konkani Adhyana Peeta, in his introduction address about the study chair said, "Any language is a binding force. It unites the people. We should be proud of our language. We all should strive to save our language, culture and heritage."

Speaking on programmes of Konkani Adhyayana Peetha he said that the Peeta has been organising various national seminars, workshops, programmes and other projects with the intention to preserve the language and continue it for the future generation. He also said that the works on the Konkani dictionary and thesaurus are in progress. He further called upon the youth to stop being addicted to social media.

Jason Sequeira Gurpur also spoke on the occasion.

As a chief guest, advocate, syndicate member of Mangalore University, Ravichandra P M in his address said, "Language is very important. In Mangalore University, there are 13 study chairs. These study chairs have been setup for the growth of the language. It is the responsibility of the youth to continue this for the future generation.”

Principal of St Aloysius College, Dr Praveen Martis SJ in his presidential address lauded the speakers for their message. Stating that language is a bond, he called upon the youth to take forward the culture of Konkani language to the future generation.

As a resource person to the conference, Kendra Sahitya Academy Awardee, Melvyn Rodrigues presented a lecture on poetry. Saraswathi Samman Awardee Mahabaleshwara Sail was virtually present.

Prof Chandraleka DSouza from Goa was present. Dr Alwyn V D’Sa registrar of St Aloysius College welcomed. Flora Castelino, president of Konkani Department thanked.
