Commuters to Udupi railway station suffer due to potholed roads

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Mar 13: It has been a pathetic journey for the passengers travelling from Udupi railway station to various places. The road leading to the Udupi railway station is making the journey miserable for the commuters.

The 1.5 km road leading to Udupi railway station is managed primarily by two parties. The first part of the road is under the Public Works Department (PWD) and the other part belongs to the railways. The 1.3 Km of the road stretch managed by the railway department has not seen any repair works in the recent past.

The road is important as it is used by passengers using an average of around 30 trains per day. Hundreds of travelers use this station on a daily basis. But the pathetic condition of the road is a black mark on the Udupi railway station. Trains connecting Mumbai, Madgaon, Thiruvananthapuram and many other parts of North and South India arrive at the Udupi station.

The cabs, auto rickshaws ferrying travelers also arrive here in large numbers maneuvering the potholes on this road.

According to the sources at the railway department, the higher authorities have been informed about the road condition who have also visited the spot. They have responded positively and the department is expecting the release of funds soon.

Definitely, that road needs to be made a 4 lane road with foot path on both sides. In fact, Udupi railway station needs an upgrade along with an additional platform. Otherwise, it gives a bad impression of Udupi especially to those who are visiting Udupi for the first time. There is also need for a new road connectivity to Udupi-Karkala (state highway 37) on the south side of the railway station. Udupi has not seen any major infrastructure change lately. Late Dr. V.S. Acharya had a plan for a ring road as well. There is also need to press for Konkan Railway line doubling from Mangaluru to Goa after which, there can be local trains running between Mangaluru and Karwar. Yes, local leadership need to work hard on moving quickly to meet the growing infrastructure needs.

ಥೂಕ್ ಲಗಾಕೆ work was done last time however the heavy rains damaged the show. Even the rain God's didn't approve the shabby work. Isn't this stretch falling under the Konkan Railways jurisdiction? Someone should bring Nalin Kateel and this should be show to him.

Udupi MLA and MP know very well that even if they don't do any work they will win due to communal agenda. So, you don't find any improvement. It is for the people to wake up and vote the right candidate based on capabilitiy of the person and not based on communal agenda. Hindu in danger is just a slogan by these crooked politicians to gain votes. Same goes for Karkala MLA. Roads are pathetic.

People elected these people to improve conditions of roads, drainage, electricity, water. Resolve the issue of land khata. And for them after becoming minister priority is to celebrate Utsava. Very sad.

M:LA is busy with hijab row. MP on long term holiday? Who else? Corporation is in deep slumber! People has to fight with the road and not the governance! People pay all kinds of exorbitant tax for free! May be authorities are looking at a new toll gate for further loot for 35 years on this 1.5 km road! Its failure of voters not the useless politicians! Voters step up...this may get solved!
