Bagalkot, Mar 14: Speaking about Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar's trip to Goa in a bid to conjure up a majority government there if his party had got the number of MLAs nearer to the halfway mark, water resources minister, Govind Karjol, satirically said that Shivakumar had travelled to Goa by hiring a special flight. He remarked that other than paying the hire charges of the flight, Shivakumar could not achieve any other purpose.
Karjol was speaking to media persons here on Sunday March 13.
In his wry remarks on the outcome of the assembly elections in five states, he said that special flights had been arranged to both Goa and Uttarakhand, but both had to return empty handed. "Position of the Congress will further deteriorate. Before the recent assembly election, I had predicted, and again am asserting now, that there will not be any Congress government in any of the states after 2024," he analysed.
On the issue of change in the Congress leadership, he said he doesn't like to personally pass remarks. But people have been talking about Gandhi and Nehru family rule, he pointed out. On the issue of cold war between then Congress factions, he remarked that it is public knowledge. In the matter of C M Ibrahim deserting the Congress, he said that even the minorities which strongly believed the Congress to be their saviours, are distancing from the party after getting disillusioned. "Many more are likely to desert the Congress. We will not contact anyone. Our doors are open 24 hours for the people who want to join us," he added.
Remarking about television and fridges offered in the constituency of Siddaramaiah, he noted that the Congress has stooped to such a low to win seats. The topmost programme on which the Congress has relied during its rule of six decades is to cheating the people and offering gifts and lures. About the crossing over of the legislative council chairman, Basavaraj Horatti, to the BJP he said there is nothing wrong in it and anyone who support the ideologies of the BJP are welcome. He pointed out that Narendra Modi’s leadership has made the country strong and that his party welcomes senior politicians. On the issue of the notion that Siddaramaiah knows the pulse of the people, he said that if he had that knowledge, his party would not have been relegated to the opposition.
