Bantwal: Accused absconding after stealing gold worth lacs arrested

Bantwal, March 14: The Bantwal rural police team has arrested an accused absconding after stealing lacs worth of gold jewellery from a house in broad daylight here. The arrested identified as Ashraf, a resident of Shuntihitlu in Arala village has been remanded to judicial custody. The police have arrested him on definite information at Sornadu.

The theft was reported in the house of Porkala, a Arala village resident Abdul Rehman during the day on January 31, 2022.

The accused had broken the door lock on the day the inmates of the house were away to participate in a wedding programme. He had broken open the almirah in a room in the house and decamped with a necklace weighing 5.50 sovereigns worth Rs 2 lac from it. A police case in this connection was registered at Bantwal rural police station.

The operation was conducted by the police team of Bantwal rural SI Harish and crime division SI Sanjiv under the leadership of Bantwal rural police inspector T D Nagaraj with guidance from SP Hrishikesh Sonavane, additional SP Kumar Chandra and Bantwal DySP Pratap Singh Thorat. ASI Girish, Balakrishna, staff Basavaraj and Radhakrishna took part in the operation.
