Mangaluru/Udupi: Hijab verdict - Holiday declared for schools, colleges

Mangaluru, Mar 14: As the Karnataka High Court will be pronouncing its verdict concerning the wearing of Hijab, deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V has declared a holiday for the schools and colleges in the district on Tuesday, March 15.

The three judge bench of the high court is expected to pronounce its verdict at 10.30 AM tomorrow. The holiday has been declared to maintain law and order, and prevent any untoward incidents following the verdict. All the primary schools, pre-primary schools, high schools, PU Colleges, degree colleges and institutes of higher studies will remain closed. However competitive examinations will be conducted as scheduled, stated the deputy commissioner.

Asst Prof exams to go on as scheduled 

Despite the holiday declared, the assistant professor examinations scheduled by the Karnataka Examination Authority will go on as per schedule on Tuesday with prohibitory orders around the examination centres in place. The examinations are scheduled in five colleges in city, i.e., St Aloysius PU College, Kodialbail, Besant National PU College, Kodialbail, Govt PU College For Women, Balmatta,Canara PU College, M G Road and Govt PU College, Car Street.

Holiday for education institutes in Udupi, Sec 144 in district

Meanwhile, Udupi deputy Commissioner  Kurma Rao M also has declared a holiday for all the schools and colleges of the district as a precaution measure in view of the Hijab verdict coming out tomorrow. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 also has been imposed in the district. No rallies or protests can be held apart from all the restraints in public places.

However, both university level and other examinations may be held as scheduled.
