Udupi: Hijab controversy - College vice president expects favourable verdict

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 15: The Hijab controversy, which raised its head initially at the government girls PU college here, had spread to other places. The issue had gained international ramifications after the anti-Hijab forces opted to attend classes with saffron shawls to challenge the Hijab-clad girls. The issue went to the state high court where detailed discussions and arguments took place. The verdict is expected to be pronounced later on Tuesday March 15.

In the meantime, vice president of the government girls PU college here, Yashpal Suvarna, speaking to media, said that he expects the verdict to be in favour of the college management. "The court will uphold the academic rights of the children. It will also give its judgement on the justifiability of imposing religious rights in an environment of education," he stated.

Suvarna said that fundamentalist organizations have misled the youngsters and misused the services of six girl students of his college. He felt that those involved with the controversy would have by now realized their mistakes. "The high court will deliver the verdict after consulting the judges of all the states. As this is a constitutional issue, detailed hearing and arguments have taken place. Therefore, even if someone goes to the Supreme Court, the judgement of the high court will be final and binding," he explained.

When Kirpan, a weapon which can be used for fatal attacks, could be allowed inside airports as a religious symbol, why can't a piece of clothe be allowed to be worn on head in schools? Non Muslim Girl students use their shawls in different ways... some put it across the neck, covering the chest and hanging lose end behind, some hand the lose ends in the front, some wear it two rounds around the neck, some use it on their heads to tackle the sunlight etc. etc.

First of all people must stop giving importance to religious issues in a multi cultural society like us... Focus must be on what children have gone to school for... That is studying and not much else... All these dramas give rise to a doubt that people have lots of wealth and too much free time... Bele daanti ................................................

Would you live having a big house or a small one? A 2000rs note or 20rs? I no just for arguing sake ppl will misinterpret this for their justification. But we all no what is true. It's just that people always want what is favoured to them and not what is right. I'm sure by now we understand why the bigger number is favourable and why it deserves to be. Not that small number doesn't have value. But it should no why it 20 shouldn't behave like 2000
