Mangaluru police hold route march in wake of high court verdict on Hijab row

Mangaluru, Mar 15: City police held a route march on Tuesday Match 15, ahead of the Karnataka High Court verdict on the hijab matter.

The police force will march from circuit house and proceed towards KSRTC, Lalbagh, PVS and Hampankatta. The route march is being held to maintain law and order.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar briefed the personnel prior to the route march. He said, “The final verdict over the Hijab matter will be announced today. The deputy commissioner has announced holiday for school and colleges. Section 144 has been imposed and gatherings and protests are restricted.

“Our duty is to only implement section 144. There is no need of making students, teachers and political leaders understand about the verdict. If there are any untoward incidents, the police personnel need to bring it to the notice of the inspector or higher ranked officers,” he said.

The police commissioner also highlighted the fact that people in the district have cooperated peacefully during the hijab row.

    I always appreciate Commissioner of Police N. Shashi Kumar's action. But today's matter, he should not have taken this much seriously. Mere announcing over the loudspeakers by standing on a Police jeep in all sensitive areas of Mangalore city. This world have been better to give awareness and alert to public about the out come of the high court decisions. And could have aviod the traffic blocks in the city. That what I believe.

    Our Commissioner of Police N.Shashi kumar is doing very good job. I always appreciate his action. But today's matter I think route march was not necessary. Instead of this he could have made announcement about section 144.. to alert the public about awareness of high court decisions over the loudspeakers in the sensitive areas. This type of announcing can avoid traffic blocks in the city.

    This issue has wasted lot of precious time of courts and policemen.... Verdict by the high court must be followed word by word... Otherwise action must be taken against the miscreants with iron hands...
