Bengaluru: Be prepared for power tariff hike jolt in April

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 15: Power tariff in the state is all set to be upwardly revised from April onward this year. The new rates will be applicable from April 1.

It may be recalled that Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) chaired by its chairman, H M Manjunath, had held public hearings between February 14 and 28 in various parts of the state to collect the general opinion of the people for the price hike proposal. The general opinion which emerged at these sittings was that the people are hard hit by the pandemic during the last two years, they have been facing extreme problems because of this, and therefore requested KERC against increasing the power tariff.

The electric supply companies in general have sought a hike of between Rs 1.5 and 2 per unit. These companies argue that they are in the red and therefore unless tariffs are increased, they cannot break even.
