Bengaluru: Chicken lovers left in quandary - Prices skyrocket

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The price of chicken usually stays normal during the summer months. However, this summer, the chicken meat prices have soared and become out of reach for the poor.

Chicken, which was traded at a price below Rs 200 per kg till a few days ago, has suddenly skyrocketed and reached almost Rs 300. The chicken lovers are finding this escalation in prices hard to digest.

It is said that shortage of poultry birds has led to this price rise. Further, the dwindling number of chicken farms is reflecting on the price with the gap widening between the demand and supply. At the same time, chicken production also generally comes down during the summer months. Meanwhile, the chicken feed, seeds, bran, maize and other food items used in the farms have registered a price increase by 25 to 35 percent and the transportation charges too have gone up. These factors have added to the steep price rise of chicken meat.

Further, during the last two years, the annual fares were not held because of the pandemic. Now large scale festivals and fairs are being held. In most of these festivals, the people prepare non-vegetarian food and therefore meat is in high demand. As a result, the chicken which was available for Rs 150 to 180 a kilogram is now being sold between Rs 250 and Rs 280 per kg. The mutton price also has gone up to Rs 600-650 per kg. People therefore have started buying less quantities of meat because of the price rise.

One way to transition to a vegetarian diet is to gradually reduce the meat in your diet while increasing fruits and vegetables. The more variety you bring to your vegetarian diet, the more likely you'll be to meet all your nutritional needs.

Sorry to learn that Meat Prices have gone up; being a Season of Festival time now, it is really a bit hard for the normal people to go in for such delicacies at this stage ! Hope things will settle down sooner than later ! All that we have to be a bit patient, though always it is not possible sometimes !!!

Dear Monty, you cannot generalize with a one to one connection and say vegetable diet is good! Steve Jobs was on a fruitarian diet for long which culminated in he getting pancreatic cancer; Aston Kutcher, film actor, did the same, read what happened to his health; on research I found that an all fruit diet indeed leads to pancreatic problems! Also read the mysterious deaths of small malnourished kids who were surviving mostly by consuming litchees, which is otherwise considered a great fruit!! Please do your own research, I have given you three examples!

I fully agree. Veg food is healthy. 9 out of 10 richest Indians are veg. All veg food is Halal. Growing cattle for food increases Methane which is not good for environment. Leo Tolstoy, Pythogaros, Audrey Hepburn, Abdul Kalam, Albert Einstein were all vegetarians.

Dear Monty "9 out of 10 richest Indians are veg.": This cannot be a criterion which a common (learned) man should follow; then it's imperative that we follow all things they do/practice, why only diet??

Why go after chicken during summer season. Have ganjee with mango (kairee) chutney or kudu da Chutney. Keep some money handy. Pls dont pour on chicken. Anytime war will escalate reach to other region. Next on Russia's list to occupy Poland Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Czech, Rumania..and many more countrues. America now become same like broiler chicken stuffed in hot water.
