Mangaluru: Union minister Nitin Gadkari orders shifting of Surathkal toll gate

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, March 15: It has finally been decided to shift the controversial Surathkal toll gate inside NMPT. The decision was taken in a meeting of a delegation consisting of Members of Parliament under the leadership of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel with union minister of surface transport and highways Nitin Gadkari at his office in New Delhi on Tuesday, March 15.

The MP said that discussions over the shifting or merger of the toll gate were discussed in the meeting. The minister has also directed that the toll be collected only from vehicles arriving inside and going out of NMPT.

The minister has also ordered the upgradation and conversion of Mani-Sampaje-Madikeri road into a four-lane highway from Mani to Sampaje.

The delegation led by Kateel had called on Nitin Gadkari at Transport Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday and had detailed discussions over the various road projects in Karnataka apart from the Suratkal toll issue.

State minister of education B C Nagesh, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, Kolar MP Muniswamy, National Highway Authority member R K Pande, Additional Secretary Go Sahel and National Highway Toll Division’s Mahaveer Singh were present at the meeting.

There are 3 gates at NMPT, MRPL, Main gate and Panambur gate. Where will the toll gate be placed? At all 3? Why should exporters and importers bear the extra costs when the other ports do not have this charge? Something is not right.

The minister has directed that toll be collected only from vehicles coming inside and going out of NMPT. In such case the tollgate should be installed at the entrance and exit of NMPT and not on the highway.

Am reminded of the Sanjivani buti when Hanuman picked up the entire hillock from one place to another. Is Nitin Gadkari a Hanuman, Shaktimann, Superman or having supernatural powers to command the toll naka to move out from its present place and move it elsewhere? He speaks in coded language, it's a farce.😊

Simply looting people in the name of toll since 2014. What about the Udupi MP not present at the meeting to gather her views?

This and other toll gate was not set up in 2014. It's part of the contract NHIa signed under UPa Govt with then Jagan Reddys Navayuga company for the highway expansion under PPP scheme. Navayuga closed down and all the problems followed later.

What did he do? On the contrary he brought the tollgate closer to Mangalore. Tollgate on highways should be outside corporation or municipal limits and there should be one tollgate only between two taluks. So vehicles crossing taluks by using highways will only have to pay toll tax.

It says in the news article that it will shift to toll only the people going into the NMPT port. Read properly before you criticize. Its like it's a reflex for you whenever there is a rulijg party based news article.
