Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 17: Muslim organizations in the state have called for a day's state-wide bandh on Thursday March 17 in protest against the verdict delivered by the state high court in Hijab case.

The organizations, which had fully supported the students who went to the high court against the insistence of the educational institutions which had barred the students with Hijabs from attending schools and colleges. The organizations are peeved over the high court order that mentions that the Holy Quran does not have mention about the wearing of the Hijabs.

Kundapur

The Union of Muslim organizations has called upon the Muslim businessmen to close down their business on Thursday. It also asked people not to come out of their houses, to close down their shops and other establishments, not to organize rallies or protest meetings and to register only peaceful protest.

The policy department has taken steps to deploy its personnel at strategic places in order to handle any untoward incidents. In the meantime, the State Bank and central market areas in the city which usually is abuzz with activities from early morning, are wearing a deserted look. Movement of vehicles has been very limited and only a handful of buses are moving.

Udupi

Partial response in Udupi is being observed for the state wide Bandh call given by Muslim organizations as protest against the recent High Court verdict on Hijab. Only some traders owning shops near the city bus stand have downed their shutters and expressed their support. Mainly those owning footwear business have closed their shops.

However, some shops owned by Muslims are open and functioning as usual. Some Muslim owners of shops are confused whether they should close the shops or not. Heavy police presence is seen near the shops owned by Muslims.

Kundapur

The bandh call given all over Karnataka by various Muslim organizations in protest against the high court verdict on wearing of the Hijabs, received good response in Kundapur and Byndoor taluks. Mutton and chicken stalls, fruit stalls, footwear stores, jewellery stores etc which are predominantly run by Muslims were closed down. In Kundapur town too, shops run by Muslims downed their shutters since morning. The merchants voluntarily closed their shops. In Gangolli where most of the businessmen are Muslims, all the shops were closed.

Dignity of labour.!!! It does not matter what work one does to earn their livelihood ,as long as it is done without cheating and robbing anybody. ///Every businessman and entrepreneur is an asset to society as they take risks that most people(including me) have no guts to take. They create jobs and products and innovations based on which the market economy runs and based on which each person's life is made better and comfortable./// These people are far more honest than the liar employees and land mafia/ 'gang of robbers' controller politicians who fit loudspeakers on buildings and scream and shout their political propaganda meant to brainwash poor people into believing their lies.

Tomorrow all will be back when their business suffers and the rear heats up. So what purpose did this Bundh serve?. All this issue will be forgotten on Monday as students abide by the Court order. Now will the 6 students or supporters stay at home? If yes for how long.? In course of time, the supporters will fade as they get fed up and helpless. Come on ! Its a flop now!

Agnes, The female students NEVER wore a Hijab in all these 24 years of the college history. It was only in December 21 that to everyones surprise , 3 girls came fully covered. Thats were the issue started and other female students in the parts of the district started wearing. It was well planned motive. Yes the College board President was called for questioning by the HC. Thats the reason it took soo much time. Anyways, nobody gives a 'you know what' for the supporters of this protest.

Hijab has been worn by many students in the past even during my college days I have seen this. Lots of students do wear it all over Karnataka and India. Hijab or not the important thing is Muslim girls were getting a chance to study at least by wearing Hijab.

Agnes,, Hijab was worn ,, but NOT in classrooms, Its not permitted in a school where there is uniform . In a Madrassa yes. St Agnes college Mluru too had the same issue when some students started wearing it one fine day after coming from abroad. I was a witness to this. The College management objected and then later they stopped wearing. Even in this episode, the students and its supporters had agreed and were willing to abide by the court , now suddenly???

They started this to test the limits of their constitutional rights, fully backed (coerced?) by unseen hands. Now they are testing the Court to see who will blink first (even though you can't blink with a hijab and purdah covering your face - and they thought the government will, just like the Centre blinked in the face of farm strike that dragged on and withdrew the three farm laws!!! If the rule of law doesn't prevail, woe to the law breakers.

In a democracy everybody should have a right to express their displeasure, to protest without making a nuisance of themselves, to criticise and hold-accountable any organ of the democratic set-up.///The trouble is with people who are hypocrites, self-righteous and Phds(people holding double standards) who do not respect anybody else’s rights in a democracy, who do not respect any law of the land except that which their political organisation deems to be to their advantage.///It is and has always been “our way or the highway”, “ either you are with us or against us”, for the subscribers of this male-dominated patriarchal cult.///They want to force a uniform belief of their ideas and their founder . Following uniform democratic laws in a civilised society is anathema to them!/// Thus we see how the narrative and the goal-posts of the andh-bhakts(of the founder of a 1500 year cult) has constantly changed about obeying and respecting the outcome of the court order. /// We also see how the politicians of this international political organisation can at anytime control their followers and tell them what to do through the “shakas” and broadcast stations, called masjids, that are spread within 200 -500mts of each other, all over India./// We also see how brain-washed, helpless, dependent children are shamelessly used as a front to meet political ends./// Using women and children as a front is a strategy adopted by many political and terrorist organisations.///As one person correctly pointed out: the followers(irrespective of age) of the cult are forced to obey fatwas , they have no options in the puppet show of the political game of expanding the control of the said organisation and its political puppeteers and controllers. If they don’t obey they will be harassed, shunned, mentally tortured, excommunicated, turned into untouchables or even given the capital punishment by a ji..di who dreams of palaces and grapes in the after-life//

Earlier mostly married and elderly women use to wear hizab. When quarain says there is no compulsion why this male dominated community is insecure.

Not due to gulf influence. Hijab is not compulsory in gulf schools, it is not included in uniforms. Actually it started with the emergence of ISIS in Syria & Iraq followed by SIMI (now banned), PFI and CFI in India. There was no such issue in the 1980s & 90s because these fanatical organisations did not exist during those days.

Not opposition which is stiff and fights behind Naqaab, Hijaab etc etc. Hijaab will Jab them for sure. the biggest concern is their way of life / thinking is totally different to every other religion...they expect everybody to budge to their way of life... Appeasement by Politicians have Spoilt them to such an extent that they think they can hold the entire System to Ransom with every possible means...Strangely enough, Gulf Countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE where these people made their money are trying to come out of this thinking and trying to live peacefully and harmoniously with all religions around the World...

Actually what bothers you if student wears a hijab to school? Why politicians wear saffron attire and preach uniformity? India's constitution is based on pluralism and diversity ..not on uniformity. If you don't understand above words, kindly take an English dictionary and also read about the Indian constitution...

Abdul, Dubai: Being from UAE you would be aware of what Kids can wear while going to Schools. You might be aware whether they can wear even pendent of gods in their chain while going to schools in UAE. Here also no one is asking you not to wear hijab outside the classroom. when inside the classroom why cant we follow the uniform culture. Being a diversified india there were many institutions allowing hijab's inside the classroom. now because of these 6 girls from udupi, no one can wear hijab while in the classroom. Minsters are not going to school to study now to say them not to wear safrron shawl. why you guys taking this matter other way. Only rules applies for education and not outside education.

Who is benefited in this bandh . Grow up dear. Please come out from your faith life goes on. Nothing is going to happen. If you feel something good is going to happen please continue your bandh.
