Bengaluru, Mar 17: Government of Karnataka has been introducing different schemes for maintaining quality of education and to encourage poor students to undertake higher education. One of them is the free laptop scheme. Under the scheme, laptops are provided to the students of first grade colleges free of cost. Under the scheme, students of both government and aided colleges are covered. The details of the scheme are given here below.
Applications: Degree students of colleges in the state are eligible under the scheme. The students have to obtain applications through the official website of the department of collegiate education, dce.karnataka.gov.in.
The students who have passed second PU examination through government PU colleges or have passed the 12th standard through CBSE Board or those who are pursuing first year degree courses in any government or aided first grade colleges in Karnataka are eligible to apply for this facility.
Eligibility: The applicant should be a permanent resident of Karnataka. Students of all the categories can submit applications. Priority is given to candidates falling in scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, and backward categories. They should have obtained admission for the degree education in the first year of the first grade colleges.
Documents needed: Residential certificate about residing in Karnataka, caste certificate, income certificate, passport size, recent photo, Aadhar card, bank account linked to Adhar photocopy, educational qualification certificate (PUC marks card photocopy), document to show admission obtained to degree course.
How to apply: Degree students have to visit the education department website, https://dce.karnataka.gov.in.

Take print out of the PDF file which opens.
Fill in application, enclose photocopies of necessary documents.
Ensure that the application reaches the department of collegiate education or the college administration department.
Students of which courses eligible: Anyone studying in any first year degree course can apply. Postgraduate degree students who have not availed free laptop facility earlier can also apply.
