Panaji, Mar 18: P S Sreedharana Pillai, governor of the state issued cheques of Rs one lac each to Goa cancer society and IMA Goa and its six local branches in order to help underprivileged geriatric patients.
Pillai expressed his desire to help in future programmes of the institutes and also appreciated them for their service. He launched ‘care of old with heart of gold’, an initiative of IMA. He also mentioned his long association with IMA Kerala and care of old people.
An initiative taken by Raj Bhavan to provide food to the homeless was taken on the occasion. Donald Fernandes, founder of street providence, an organization that provides food to Goa’s homeless people received the first packet from the governor. According to the programme the Raj Bhavan will give away fresh food for 100 persons a week and the distribution will be done by street providence group.
