Bommai calls for restraint after Kiran Shaw's 'religious divide' remark

Bengaluru, March 31 (IANS): After Biocon chief Kiran Majumdar Shaw mentioned 'growing religious divide' in her tweet, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday, March 31 said that everyone should show restraint.

"We have been living with our beliefs on various issues over the years. Karnataka is known for peace and progress. It is possible to resolve the social issues through peaceful talks. So everyone should behave with restraint and cooperate to maintain peace and order," Bommai said.

Unfortunately, vested interests are hijacking the issue, he said.

Bommai was speaking to media persons at Vidhana Soudha.

Reacting to the tweet from biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw advocating the need to avoid communal animosity for the development of the State, Bommai said, the school uniform issue has already been resolved.

"I am confident that our CM Bommai will resolve the matter peacefully. I am a proud Kannadiga and don't want to see these incidents detract from economic progress. All parties need to work towards this," Kiran Mazumdar Shaw later said.

Earlier, she had tweeted, "Karnataka has always forged inclusive economic development and we must not allow such communal exclusion." Shaw had urged Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to resolve this growing religious divide in the state.

"If IT-BT becomes communal it would destroy our global leadership," she had warned.

Kiran Shaw's tweet came after right wing groups in Karnataka intensified their call to boycott buying halal meat and Muslim merchants from carrying out business within temple premises and religious fairs.

So what? Do the businessmen don't have the right to voice their views? Do you think they are there just to employ people and pay taxes to the government? For your info, she is an Indian and even if one is not Indian, they have the right to tell the government that what they are doing is wrong.

I never ever expected this from a well educated CM (Engineer by profession!!!). Come on Mr. CM. Your father, Mr. S. R. Bommai is still remembered for his contribution towards secularism. Do not spoil the image of our beautiful Karnataka. Always remember, a spark neglected burns the house.

Quote: "Karnataka is known for peace and progress. It is possible to resolve the social issues through peaceful talks. Since he took over the position of CM, peace has become a thing of the past. I thought Yediyurappa was the worst CM of Karnataka but I was wrong. If they have Yogi in the North, we have Bommai in the South, two sides of a fake coin. Karnataka is in turmoil because of Bommai. The word "peace" does not sound good from his mouth.

Applause to Kiran, we need more industrialists to come forward to prompt the government at Center and states to create an atmosphere of harmony to help our nation to progress instead of dividing people sowing the seeds of hatred to get temporary election victories at the detriment of economic growth which would force them to relocate to the states where they can perform better with inclusive staff.

What a answer from our CM?. We should restrain until when. You as a CM not objecting issues or providing solutions for the problems happening in our state instead you blindly supporting. Every religion has their faith and belief and they will follow that.

Fully agree with Biocon chief remark. With the Hijab, Bhagavad Gita, The Kashmir Files and ban on Muslim traders, who will come to invest in Karnataka? And imagine what would be the impact if Wipro Ltd with the HQ in Bangalore owned by muslim businessman Azim premji think similarly the way communal heads ponder over his total headcount capacity of appx 2.5 milion employees out of which 3/4 are from majority community....
