Mumbai, Jan 30: The 57th annual day celebration of metro-based Bhandary Seva Samiti was held at Radhabai T Bhandary auditorium, Bunts Sangh, Kurla (East), on Saturday January 29.
The Samiti’s young president Balakrishna P Bhandary presided over the valedictory function on Saturday evening.
Karnataka Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty was the chief guest who inaugurated the programme.
Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel released ‘Soujanya’ bulletin on the same occasion.
Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (NGO) founder president Tonse Jayakrishna V Shetty, Mira–Dahanu Bunts Sangh honorary president Shankar Shetty, Bantwal town councilor Dinesh Bhandary, Bangalore Institute of Management Studies chairman M B Shiva Kumar, Kacchur Nageshwari Temple managing trustee Dinesh Bhandary, and president Madhav Kuloor were present on the dais.
Attur Shivaram S Bhandary, internationally-acclaimed hair stylist and managing director of Shiva’s Stylo Private Limited, was conferred with the Samaj Ratna award during the programme.
K V Bhandary and Ratna K V Bhandary, Kuwait, Balakrishna Puttur and Sulochana Balakrishna,Pune, B J Bhandary and Prafulla B Bhandary, Mangalore, veterans of community Dharmapal U Devadiga and Jaya C Suvarna, Dr Sunitha M Shetty, Aikala Harish Shetty and Chandrika Harish, R K Shetty and Anitha R Shetty, as well as G T Acharya and Usha G Acharya were honoured with Sadhana Ratna award.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaraj Shetty said that the Bhandary community has set an ideal example to others about empowerment through education.
Samiti vice-president Vijayanand Bhandary Bandra, Padmanabha Bhandary, lawyer Shekar Bhandary Bhandup, honorary treasurer Ramesh Bhandary, women’s wing president Lalita Vishwanath Bhandary, building committee president Suresh S Bhandary Kadandale, and heads of other committees were also present on the occasion.
Advisory committee president lawyer Sundar Bhandary welcomed the gathering. Ashok Pakkala compered the programme.
‘Gandhi Banda’, Kannada social play directed by Chanda Shetty and written by playwright H Nagaveni was staged by Ranga Mantapa troupe of Bangalore as part of the cultural programme. Musical and dance shows performed by metro-based Kala Sourabha troupe and directed by Padmanabha Sasihitlu were also staged.
