M’lore: Mahendra Kumar Aims at Communal Harmony

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (PS)

Mangalore, Jan 31:
In his interaction with the media persons at the journalists’ study center on Monday January 31 Mahendra Kumar, former Bajrang Dal convener presented himself with different image, apparently well for all. He said sustaining communal harmony is the need of an hour, whatever the final report of the Somshekar commision, normalcy should prevail in the state as people are fed up of communal nuisance, he said. He briefed an incident which transformed him. He gave two reasons for being so. First reason was a Hindu woman who was converted to Christianity. "Her life was deteriorated due to severe poverty and she decided to commit suicide with her three children but was saved by Christian missionaries. Then he realized that life is more important than religion.

Second incident was when he saw (through TV) the desecration of Jesus’ idol at the prayer hall at Adoration monastery.

“Now my dream is to build a society that values life more than religion," he explained. Expressing his unhappiness about the treatment from BJP, he said he was made scapegoat by the BJP government in church attack incident. However he did not confirm about his decision to join JDS.

He also pointed out serious discrepancies in the Justice B K Somashekara Commission that probed the attacks. There is no need to give any importance to the commission’s report now though Rs 2 crore has been spent for the investigation. He termed the report as ‘unclear’. He said he has a problem with the sections under which he has been charged. "I should have been charged under section 153 (a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) for my statements instead of section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.  After the attacks, I never mentioned that the Bajrang Dal was responsible but it was made to appear that the statements were mine," he said.

His intension while joining Bajrang Dal was to mobilize the youth for a good cause, but at the end of the day all concepts were politically motivated’ he added.

After an hour long debates various others leaders who were also present came to a conclusion that achieving communal harmony is the need of an hour and not dragging the issue anymore.

Mr.A. D'Souza, Kodialbail. What you told is absolutely right. Everybody should carry with themselves always Holy Books like Torah/Injlees/Koran/Bible/Geeta/Purana/Upanishads/Vedas in order to know any context. Media will continue to play an important role in the day to day progress of India. India is advanced in every sense of the word including our literacy and understanding for peaceful co-existence. India is diversified in religion, culture, color, language, education, economy and much more. India being the largest democracy of the world, the freedom of speech and freedom of journalism will continue to flourish without any doubt.

"Communal Harmony" is the golden key that each of us need to take into consideration in everything that we feel and do. Our dialogs on any topic, specially topics relating to religion need be handled and respected very very cautiously in everything that we perceive. The preachings and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi need be engraved in the heart of every Indian in order to prove within ourselves and with the rest of the world so that we are truly proven as a "Secular Nation" worthy to be admired and respected not only within the mainstream of India but throughout the world. Hundreds of millions of people in India are moving ahead so progressively, but we still have millions behind that need be guided and supported. There are many millions in India that are innocently ignorant.

While the Middle East is going thru so many turmoils, we pray to God that India should be spared from any harm or damage because India is a God's country, and with our faith in one God let communal harmony prevail at all times. "Kudha Afeiz" and "Namaskhar".

My personal opinion is that comparing rupees to any precise answers is like comparing apples with oranges, but there is one similarity however. You yourself said that the RBI is holding a lot of currencies whereas your requirement is only a thousand out of it, is it not ? Bobby Malhotra may also have his own need of one million rupees which is a lot more than what your requirement. RBI does not even know you, but since you are in need of it the RBI may lend you depending on YOUR needs, YOUR capacity to repay and or the security YOU are able to provide against it.

Similarly, understanding religious concepts, believing and accepting them are also related to your requirement, interest, knowledge and most of all YOUR thirst for it. It is all personal. One cannot say ‘my God is better than your God’ or ‘my religion is better than yours’. It would be best if you can help yourself and find out the answer, so that you may feel more comfortable that someone else is not spoon feeding you. This also is a way to avoid misunderstandings.

Dear Ravi Kadri, Mangalore, Christianity is for forgiveness provided they know whom to forgive. Mahendra Kumar admitted his wrongdoings and it becomes the duty of all Christians to forgive him religiously. Similarly if the attackers come forward to admit their wrongdoings then I am sure Christians will have no hesitation to forgive the attackers religiously. I hope you got an answer to your question. Please try to understand no Christian will ever follow Mahendra Kumar although they have forgiven him.

I am still surprising to see comments from various Daiji readers cannot able to give answer for Bobby's small comment. It's like somebody ask for Rupees One Thousand and you instruct them to go and fetch through RBI as they are holding lot of currencies.

Here I use to mention that all the problem starts from not good foundation to our children's from the beginning itself, while they ask something we will give different answer to close the matter.

Discussion should require in good manner and not in argumental basis and to respect all religions.

How come ex-Bajrang Dal leader who was criticized left & right, top to bottom by all the same commentators here became his followers? … Only on hearing his made up story of "realization"?? What a joke folks!!! - Now don’t give me a story on "forgiving" etc,. If you are so forgiving why don’t you forgive and forget whatever happened in the past and get on with the life instead of spreading hatredness thro your venomous comments?

    Dear Mr KG Shenoy:
Please do not get me wrong, but I find a small discrepancy in your very first statement where by you used a very important word “ALL” – No Sir, all prophets and all religions do not teach the same things. Right and wrong I do not know, but darkness to light no way. Spend some time and read all the supposed to be good and godly books and you will know that for sure, because it is all written in black and white. If you have any difficulty in understanding my point please look around you.

Godliness is seen in HIS creation. Read all the news papers you can lay your hands on. Find out what exactly is the reason for so many fights, deaths, killings, murders, suicides, most importantly suicide killings. However, I agree with you on your one point that at all people do not have the same attitude, knowledge and far sightedness. Let me also add three more attributes to it,
i.e. ‘ego’ and ‘stubbornness’ and ‘blind faith in cock and bull stories’ .

    @ JOHN DEMELLO,Sharjah,
    Dear John,
I agree 100% with whatever you mentioned.I respect and accept the message and the beautiful teachings of all the prophets and religious books. As far as my observation goes no religion or religious books preach or teach bad things. All of them guide the people from darkness to Brightness. But it is the people who do not follow these teachings and use the reference of religion or religious books to suit their convenience.
You very well know that all people do not have the same attitude, knowledge and far sightedness. There are large number of opportunists, hypocrits, lazy incompetent
" Danda pinda's "who always blames others for their weaknesses etc etc then how do we expect things to move closer to perfection ?It is the people not the religion or religious books. In one family if brothers and sisters could fight like enemies, people from same community could fight for, money, property, power and over difference in certain beliefs, indicates we are still struggling in ignorance wearing the mask of civilized face.

Dear Bobby Malhotra of Mulki, you have asked a nice question and I will answer you in simple terms. God became man to teach mankind to repent, to forgive enemies, to love your neighbour. Tell me which God of any religion teaches you to love your neighbour who may be your enemy. Which religion teaches you to bless those who curse you, insult you, humiliate you, say all kind of wicked things against you. Jesus said "if someone slaps you on the left cheek, give the right one also".

As far as I know, only one God teaches and that is Lord Jesus whom we believe as the Son of God because God became Human to teach us to love and forgive our enemies. Lord Jesus did not utter a single word when he was beaten humiliated, scourged, whipped and crucified. Instead Jesus prayed for his tormentors "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do". I openly challenge you or anyone who knows any other God who teaches you true forgiveness to your enemies.

Boby Malhotra, Mulky, if you cannot buy a Bible, please try and understand that Jesus took life on earth to spread love and diminish hatred. He sacrificed his life for us to explain what love is, and to save us from sin. Being the master he washed his disciple’s feet and asked them to do the same to spread love. Although he knew who is going to betray him, he did not hate him rather washed his feet also. When soldiers came to arrest him, one of his disciples pulled the knife and chopped off the servant’s ear Jesus healed the servant first and asked the disciple to put his knife back. When on cross one of the robber challenged his authority whereas the other robber admitted his sins, and Jesus promised him a place in paradise. When one admits all wrong doings, human may or may not pardon him but God certainly does.

    Bobby Malhotra:
You seem to have an in built hatred towards Christians in general. You also seem to get tickled while touching upon words like Lord, Christ etc.,. Never mind, everything will be alright but only if you take a little interest and spare a few minutes of your time and hear me out for a change. From the writings of your past it is not too difficult to figure out what may be cooking in your mind as far as the concept of God and religion is concerned. You are free to believe in whatever you want to believe but in the meantime give this opportunity a chance, lest your roof would leak at every small rain as it is happening now. Why would you ask a question to Mr. Lancelot Tauro otherwise. Is it because his name sounds like a Christian name. You must have assumed it.

There is a book they call as the Bible which is available freely and does not cost you much. One of the reasons why I recommend you to read this book or at least thumb thru it is because it is not merely a book as any other book but a compilation of many interesting topics including many historical facts. It is a compilation of thoughts and sayings of many wise & righteous men at the time which is said to be inspired by God himself. Most importantly it is the only book which talks today about the things tomorrow, known as prophecies. One important point however is that you need to start afresh with a clean slate, like a little child and with an open mind. Please also note that mere reading does not compel you to believe in it. Many may say ‘Do not read it, it is all a myth’. Some others may say ‘Do not read it, it is all altered’. Your will power and patience will be put to test but do not give up. Try your luck. When finalize your accounts you may not have to say that you did not know and that no one had told you.

I am sure you will find your answer to the question to Mr. Lancelot N Tauro as to why our Lord took birth in this earth. You will be happy at least you tried. Good luck

All people in undivided DK (Mangalore & Udupi) who studied in educational institutions belonging to Catholics should ask themselves a very important question. Did they come across any school which made a attempt to impose the religion on Hindu’s. I am sure 99.99999% will say clear NO. Also through my experience I have learnt that they will not make a difference between a Christian or a Hindu when it comes to education that all are getting equal treatment when imparting the education. As they are minority run institutions which are set up for the minorities they are allowed to give a preference in terms of admissions but once these admissions are out after that all students are equal. I studies in St. Aloysius Mangalore and out of the total 83 students in our class around 30% of the students were belonging Christian community and rest were Hindus/Others. The political parties are to be blamed for the increased tension as they involve misleading some youth and people who are ignorant to garner the votes. It’s time to wake up now and see the world differently.

Many people prayed that Lord would forgive those prosecuted christians during the attack, exactly like Jesus did on the cross.Mahendra testimony is more powerful than judicial report by Somashekar commission.it is nobody's win nor defeat. It is triump of message that Jesus preached.

Mahendra, I request you to enlighten the youth who continue to be exploited in the same way that you were, so that they do not fall prey to the vested interests of a certain section of society. Your testimony can save our country from self centredness of certain people.

You have stated an incident of missionaries saving a woman from committing suicide. In fact, the Christian missionaries are active in doing good 24X7 through hospitals, schools etc. So many people benefit from the services and no one is given special preference based on religion.

I am proud to be a Christian !!!

I dont know how true are his feelings. My only wish to him is - if you are a Hindu be a good Hindu. Dont convert to any relegion. As one of the commentators here said... your conversion must be from your heart to be a good Hindu. Relegion is a private affair, to be used in good spirit in public. If the news about your transformation is true, I can only say God is great. We are all human beings first, Christians and Hindus next. Jai Hind

Better late than never!! Religion is secondary!! Loving each other is more important than anything else in life!! I think no religion teaches any better!! Conversion of the mind in this regard is essential!! This is what Christian community is propagating all along!! Religion is the personal choice and freedom of personal choice!!! Pumping hatred for the power and money is major business today for votes!! Everyone knows there is no conversion... forced or willingly (if exists it is a minute of minute fraction willingly...)

I appreciate the inner feelings of Mr. Mahendra. definitely he will be criticized by fundamentalists but not by genuinly harmonious people. Whatever the case now no body can say that Catholics have converted him / or made him to say so. Praise the Lord who inspires his children in right time for right reasons. Nobody is above God who died for our misdeeds. I wish and pray for Mr/Br Mahendra that May God give his wisdom to juege the things and understand His love and care and the eternal gift for you. Thanks for your comments from your open heart regarding the incidents which changed your way of thinking. Wish u all the best.

I am sure there is a exceulterior motive behind hid confession. I hope God will forgive him for desecrating Holy Sacrament( I wrote at the time of attacks that this man will have his come uppence and it has proved to be true) Others who took part in it will also face what is due to them.

Christian Missionaries are silently doing their missionary work to needy people. But many people in this society take them in a different way. They think they are doing this job to covert other religion people to Christianity. People who think and talk this way should go there and stay with them for few days to know exactly the reality. If you take for example in Mangalore there are many schools and colleges run by Christian missionaries, for past few decades can anyone prove at least one case of conversion in these educational institutions. Most of the parents opt Christian educational institutions only because of the discipline and quality of teaching in these instructions. Good, at least Mr. Mahendra Kumar realized what exactly Christian missionaries are all about.

Truth always wins oevr lie and light over darkness.
The path of violence, hatred, venom will not do good to the society but humanity, compassion, concern to fellow beings is going to change human hearts.
The day won't be far away all the divisive forces will vanish and bite dust. Repentent people God will forgive them and we should also accept them. Wish humanity prevails over selfishness. Let there be a society of love not of hatred, doubt, venom which is evil.

This statement is meant for Nagesh Maamu & his supporters who talks about conversion "He gave two reasons for being so. First reason was a Hindu woman who was converted to Christianity. "Her life was deteriorated due to severe poverty and she decided to commit suicide with her three children but was saved by Christian missionaries. Then he realized that life is more important than religion"

Another "Swami" Aseemanand in the making...???? If Mahendra means it from his heart, then Christian brothers and sisters and God will forgive him unconditionally. If this is a game-plan then he will pay for it dearly. Any type of harmony and peace, be it communal or otherwise is most welcome. Common Mr. Mahendra lift your spirits and show your repentence in good deeds. God helps the sincere repentant.

It is timely confession of Mr mahendra kumar. When I read the statement of Bobby & Nagesh their thoughts are filled with venom. why not these people participate in helping their oun community.YOU both watch Jansi ki rani Ztv. who betrayed her?Christians are peace loving people. They are harssed in the name of converstion. There are many Hindus staying in gulf & western countris they also comment on us,It is not fair.Pl write about harmony. We all are Indians. There must be valid reason, our elders followed this beautiful religion.pl don't insult.

Mahendra Kumar's enlightenment is not trust worthy.People will not take his words neither.Worst part of his journey is that his joining a communal party like JDS which takes care of only Gowdas either politically or otherwise.
