Mumbai, Feb 1: “Kannada Bhavan education institutions are founded in the metro by veteran Kannadigas who hail from diverse cultures, religions, and regions across Karnataka. Their sacrifices and hard work are indeed great. Parsi community leader Boman Behram and Dr N D Kanchan were an inspiration to them with Behram serving as founder president of Kannada Bhavan till his death. Kannada Bhavan education institutions have always supported its alumni association since 1964,” said Kannada Bhavan School founder principal Ram Narayan Ail.
He was speaking at the felicitation programme organized by the alumni association at Karnataka Sangh auditorium recently.
The metro’s Bunts justice committee president M D Shetty presided over the programme and felicitated Ram Mohan Ail by draping a shawl and presenting a citation letter, memento, and a tray of fruits and flowers.
In his presidential address, M D Shetty spoke of why he migrated to the metro and the hardships that were faced by him when earning a living and pursuing study at the night high school run by Kannada Bhavan.
Kannada Bhavan Education Society president A B Shetty, Bharat Co-operative Bank former chairman and Kannada Bhavan Education Society vice-president Dayanand B Amin, and Classic Hotel proprietor Suresh Kanchan, were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Ram Mohan Ail also honoured five alumni members – Dr Pramila S Kurkal of Hinduja Hospital, medical practitioner Dr Karunakar S Bangera, Karnataka Rajyotsav award recipient LIC professional R K Shetty, Mohan Marnad, and I Infotech company secretary Shivanand R Shettigar, on the same occasion.
Kannada Bhavan Education Society honorary chief secretary Shekar A Amin was also present on the dais.
Alma Mater president Keshav K Kotian welcomed the gathering. Gopal Trasi and Vasant Suvarna compered the programme.
Variety entertainment programmes by Nufur Dance Academy and the students of Kannada Bhavan School were also held.
