Doha, Feb 1: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ), a socio cultural organization affiliated to the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) under the aegis of the Indian Embassy, has initiated a unique step towards educating the children and adults of Karnataka origin, by starting Kannada language coaching classes on January 28, 2011 Friday at the ICC.
The launch function was attended by the ICC president, K M Varghese, who was the chief guest, and Sudha Prabhakar, a Kannada teacher by profession, who was the guest of honour.
Tarun Basu, general secretary of ICC, and Milan Arun, head of affiliation and consular services of ICC, was present. The past presidents and present committee members of Karnataka Sangha were present at the ceremony.
Arun, general secretary of KSQ, welcomed the gathering, while the president of KSQ, Arun Kumar, thanked everyone including KSQ Office bearers for their wholehearted support in realizing a dream to come true with the launch of these classes, and explained how it would benefit the expatriate Kannada community based in Qatar. He welcomed all the expatriates of Karnataka origin here to come forward and make use of this wonderful facility provided by KSQ.
Chief guest, Varghese, emphasized the need for learning one’s own mother tongue and effectively explained the gathering about the after-effects of forgetting the regional language in the global scenario. He requested all those present, to bring up their language effectively and wished that all the other Indian regional based associations will take cue from KSQ to initiate such unique events for their members.
Sudha Prabhakar extended best wishes to the programme, and assured to extend all her support to achieve the core objective of this programme.
Manjunath, the teacher who has willingly accepted to do this honorary job, then started the coaching classes by introducing Kannada, a 2000-year-old language and the importance of learning one’s mother tongue. The class commenced with writing of the first word of Kannada on the writing board by the VIP guests. The class was well attended by students comprising of children and adults.
