Mangalore/Udupi, Feb 8: The sleuths of Lokayukta on Tuesday February 8 raided commercial tax office situated near PWD office in Mangalore, and caught Somshekar who was working as a vat tax assistant commissioner. He was taking the bribe of Rs 2000 from Manoj to allot him the TIN number and certificate of registration.
The raid was conducted under the guidance of Lokayukta Inspector Uday Nayak, SP Jagamayyanavar Sadananda Varnekar, Circle Inspector of Police Lokayukta, Uday Nayak also took part in the raid operation.
In another raid operation that occurred on the same day in Udupi, Lokayukta police traced a village accountant Gururaj, when he was taking bribe of Rs 15000 from Harishchandra for availing him the NOC (No Objection Letter) for his land.
It is apparent that some of the government officials in the district are not distressed by the repeated raid being done by Lokayukta as repeated corruption cases are reported in short span of time.
