Tumkur, Apr 24: A woman died due to fake IVF treatment given by a fake doctor couple at Belagerehalli of Nonavinakere Hobali in Tiptur taluk of the district.

Mamata (34), wife of Mallikarjun, a resident of Belagerehalli, is the unfortunate woman who lost her life. The couple did not have children though they were married for 15 years.

The quack couple, Manjunath of Mandya origin and Vani of Udupi origin, took Rs 4 lac from Mallikarjun and Mamata, and treated her unscientifically for four months. Mamata developed severe complications in her uterus, kidney, heart and brain and was treated at St John’s hospital in Bengaluru and Sridevi Hospital of Tumkur for three months. She was shifted to a government hospital as all treatments failed and breathed her last on Saturday, April 23.

Many couples of the same village where deceased Mamata lived, are now in panic as they also are under treatment from the same quack couple.

Manjunath of Mandya and Vani from Udupi, the quack couple, have minted lacs of rupees from couple who did not have children in the district of Tiptur, Turuvekere and Arasikere. A case in this connection was registered against them on January 19, 2022 at Nonavinakere police station.

Police who investigated the case, came to know that both Manjunath and Vani are just SSLC pass and do not possess any medical degree. The couple were arrested and sent to judicial custody. Now with the death of Mamata, the case will be more stringent on the quack couple.
