Bangalore: B S Yeddyurappa Promises Metro as Ugadi Gift

Bangalore: B S Yeddyurappa Promises Metro as Ugadi Gift

New Delhi/Bangalore, Feb 12 (DHNS): Bangaloreans can expect a Ugadi gift if Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s promise in New Delhi on Friday that the commercial operations of the Metro will commence on April 4 comes true.

Yeddyurappa told reporters that he plans to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to flag off the Metro, “for which trial runs have already begun,” on Ugadi (April 4).

However, according to sources in Bangalore, the completion of the work is likely to miss that deadline, further pushing the commercial operations. Although several “static tests” are complete, trials on the main track, which began in the last week of January, have been hit by a small civil engineering snag, delaying the safety certification.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) spokesperson B L Y Chavan had earlier said the train will  have to go through tests on the main track for at least eight weeks before the commissioner of railway safety “can certify it as safe for commercial use.”
If the tests on the main run had continued without the glitch, then the train would have  completed the tests by March-end, making an April launch  possible.

But given that the BMRCL is already three weeks behind schedule, there is no way the train can be given the green signal for its commercial run before Ugadi, unless “a shortcut is found,” sources said in Bangalore.

Also, the political crisis in Karnataka has resulted in the postponement of the joint inspection, scheduled for January 24,  of the Metro run by Yeddyurappa and Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath.

Yeddyurappa said Nath will  visit the City later this month. The chief minister denied any delay in the completion of the first phase from Byappanahalli to M G Road. He also ruled out changes in  the opening of  future lines and the next phase.

Asked why Bangalore should have a high-speed train link to the airport when Delhi has only a Metro which will be connected to the airport shortly, the chief minister said no final decision has been taken in this regard. “Discussions are on. We are aware of the high cost of the proposed Bangalore’s high-speed City-airport train link. We will take a decision keeping the cost factor in view,” he added.

Nithin Poojary, Mangalore/UK just introducing a project by SM Krishna is not a big thing. I am in bangalore from last 9 years. I can make out the difference between the work during SM Krishna govt and Yeddy govt. My office is near MG road where metro work is going on . The work started in full swing only when yeddy state govt came in the state and not during SM Krishna govt. Therefore the actual credit should go to Yeddy not SM Krishna.

Dear Mr.Nagesh,How can U predict that Namma city will be number one in the world, when hundreds of people with small kids without proper clothes begging in almost all street corners of Bangalore.Lacks of people are living in the slums without sufficient water & food.Which buildings are renovated.Other day I visited BDA complex in Indira Nagar & noticed full of urine dirty smell.I also visit lots of parks where U can find full of shit from cows & dogs.Almost all our foot paths are broken & people have no enough space to walk.Auto drivers of our city are number one cheats. We watch on TV daily, lots of murders & rape cases. Our cows & animals are sleeping on the roads.Stray dogs are biting & killing the innocent children. Our construction workers who are living just behind our politicians have no proper shelter & water to drink & take showers.Being a ex senior executive of Airline Industry I have visited all most all major cities of the world which have well maintained. In any major cities we can find clean toilets to use.Where U can find a good toilet in our city & near the tourist spot.Garbage in our city is thrown every where & not cleared for months together. All most all roads of Bangalore are full of potholes.Almost all street lights in namma city are not functioning & we cannot drive in the night.Just fly overs, unusable under passes, metro & broken bridges will not make our city no1.Look at the tunnel in Austria,Sit on a cable car in Lebonon ,visit EFFEL tower in France.

Hello Nagesh Nayak, "Do Not take Masala before you get Fish". This is the proverb using day dream people. First of all do you know, a state to be number one in the world the following things should be considered. Metro rail is not big achievement and in all cities it is common now.
It is somewhat easier to say which countries are richer and which are poorer. But
indicators of wealth, which reflect the quantity of resources available to a society,
provide no information about the allocation of those resources—for instance, about more or less equitable distribution of income among social groups, about the shares of resources used to provide free health and education services, and about the effects of production and consumption on people’s environment. Thus it is no wonder that
countries with similar average incomes can differ substantially when it comes to
people’s quality of life: access to education and health care, employment opportunities,
availability of clean air and safe drinking water, the threat of crime, and
so on. With that in mind we determine which countries are more developed and which are less developed?
Second thing Yeddi so crooked just to please Hindus he wants to start the METRO on Ugadi. This is not a gift from him but it is every citizen’s property because we all have to pay tax later.
Who ever become CM must do the delopment and it is their job and they get salary for that. Only one thing we all must observe how soon, safe, less coruption did.
