Moodbidri: Spectacular Start to Bhootanatheshwara Kreedotsava

Moodbidri, Feb 12: Sri Bhootanatheshwara Kreedotsava, a festival of village games organized under the auspices of Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara temple and Bhoothanatheshwara Bhajana Mandali, Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar was inaugurated here on Saturday February 12.
D V Sadananda Gowda, member of the parliament, Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, eminent elder Sri Mijarguthu Anand Alva and Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation among other dignitaries graced the inagural function.
The competitors contested in various interesting rural games like Treasure Hunt in Mud, Tug-of-War, and Removing of Coconut Cover by Mouth, Rice Mudi Making, and Frog Jumping, Filling Water in the Vessel among others. Fancy dress and talent show will also be held on the day to entertain the gathering.
The Kreedotasava is an attempt to revive traditional games and sports of Tulunadu region comprise Udupi - Dakshina Kannada – Kasargod regions. Though the event is organized by a temple, people of all castes, communities and religions were invited to participate in the true spirit of brotherhood, communal harmony and national integration.
The temple authorities under the leadership of Vijaynath Vittal Shetty decided to organize the village games contest in order to boost the rural community life. Premnath Shetty, Physical Director, Swami Vivekananda College, Yedapadav is in charge of overseeing the professional conduct of the event.
Over 1,300 contestants will participate in 21 games of the two-day Kreedotsava. The Kreedotsava will conclude with a dance performance by the renowned actress and Bharata Natyam artiste Padmashri Shobana and her troupe on Sunday February 13 at 6.00 pm.
