Online Platform for Child Adoption Launched

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS) In an effort to facilitate faster, smoother and a more transparent adoption process, the women and child development ministry Monday launched an online platform for all adoption related information.

Launching the Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System (CARINGS), Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said that in addition to providing information it will also help the government monitor the adoption and post-adoption process, thereby ensuring transparency.

"CARINGS is an online platform which will create links through a robust web-based management system. Developed by Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), it will facilitate expeditious and smooth adoption, ensure transparency and increase accountability of implementing agencies," she said.

"It will also create a network of stakeholders towards improved synergy and maintain a national database to enable effective policy making and research," she added.

According to a statement by the ministry, adoptions in the country have shown an upward trend in 2010 with figures touching 6,286 in comparison to 2,518 in 2009.
