‘Clean Sports India’ Aims to Eradicate Dirty Politics from Sports

Mangalore, Feb 21: With the intention of making sports free from the hands of political conspirators, former national and international sportspersons of India have come together and launched a movement ‘Clean Sports India’, said Reeth Abraham, joint convenor of CSI at a press conference here on Monday February 21.
She added Clean Sports India has the two-fold object of creating an environment wherein Olympic Sports Federation, association and clubs in India are managed essentially by former sports persons and creating an atmosphere where in Olympic sports in India are practiced and competed without doping.
Speaking further on the activities of Clean Sports India, she said the federation has initiated activities like awareness runs, discussions, seminars to educate people and to create public opinion against mismanagement of sports by non sports persons.
CSI is now in the process of opening many local chapters run by sportsmen and sports lovers to promote the movement and demand change. Donations to the CSI movement are welcome, she said and added over the last seven months CSI has been relentless in its effort to sensitize all political parties, the general public as well as policy makers in sports to give a face-lift to the present order and provide space for sportsmen to be part of the administration system.
Vandana Rao, treasurer, CSI, lamented on Suresh Kalmadi’s awkwardness and said Kalmadi by his adamant and shameful behavior did not take any moral responsibility and continued to rule Indian sports. She added he has done nothing for us, and he should step down from the post, she urged.
Vandana Shanbagh, executive committee member said that the main reason behind athletes not brining good number of medals is lack of concern over sports icons. She added CSI demands the former sportsmen, sports lovers, and responsible citizens to participate by becoming registered members of the movement, to challenge the existing order.
