Belthangady: Dharmasthala Ganapathi temple theft accused nabbed; jewellery worth Rs 3,08,500 seized

Belthangady, June 2: A Belthangady-based Mumbai resident Balachandra D accompanied by his family had visited Ganapathi temple, Kokkada village here to worship the deity.

They were standing in the line to receive Theertha prasada. Meanwhile, someone had stolen their purse containing the jewellery of his wife, after opening the zip of her bag. A case under registration No. 30/2022 under IPC section 379 about the theft was registered at Dharmasthala police station on the basis of complaint on April 20 this year.

The special team of Dharmasthala sub inspector has arrested the accused Bheemavva alias Nagamma (63), resident of Betageri, Gadag and recovered a diamond necklace worth Rs 1,56,000, a gold ring worth Rs 15,000, another gold ring worth Rs 20,000 and Jumki worth Rs 1,17,500 totally worth Rs 3,08,500. The accused is a habitual offender stealing from pilgrimage centres.

The team under the leadership of Bantwal assistant SP Shivamshu Rajaputh, circle inspector Shivakumar, special team staff of PSI Krishnakanth Patil, Bennichan, Prashanth, Rahul, Sathish Naik, Shekar, Krishnappa, Ravindra, Anil Kumar, driver Lokesh, Saubhagya, computer section’s Sampath and Diwaker took part in the operation under directions and guidance from their senior officials.

The SP has announced a prize for the team which cracked the case early. People have praised their efforts.

    In the holy places always devils surrounded. No respect for the holy place by these type of culprits. Many are addicted to robbery. Some are begging. And some are addicted to goondagiri some are 40%.

    I dont blame the who has stolen the chain.I blame who brings diamond Necklace and other valueables and put in Pocket and keep in handbag.It makes no sense to bring there and afterwards after theft ,blame the stealing people.They steal for their livlihood.So always be careful ,avoid giving chance to them and when dont find cry.God doesnt ask you how much gold u have.

    I totally agree with u Rita ma'am. Why should they carry gold ornaments in person while visiting a temple. I don't think any person going to a church or mosque would carry valuables with them.

    We too are not less shetre. Showing off is too much in our community. Just few dsys back one of my neighbors chain (from the neck) got robbed. After robbing, chains weight will be automatically increases.....I feel, this couple must have come from mumbai on the same day. They may not have felt safe to keep their jewelry in the lodge. So, they carried it along with them may be. How this avva came to know that this particular couple has so much jewelry.....Bhagwan ka vardaan...
