Outstanding returns: 2,000 coconuts on one tree in Karwar

Daijiworld Media Network – Karwar (MS)

Karwar, Jun 3: Generally 100 to 200 coconuts are seen on a single coconut tree. However, one coconut tree at Hosalkuli of Honnavar taluk has created a record by giving 2,000 to 3,000 coconuts. Many agricultural lovers visit this place, just to see this tree.

This tree is from a rare species which gives an enormous number of coconuts. This unique coconut sapling was planted 12 years ago at Subraya Parameshwara Shetty’s house, a resident of Hamsaramakki in Hosakuli village. Within three years of planting itself, this tree began giving an excellent yield. One bunch holds around 300 to 400 coconuts. Once in every two months, the crops are cut and it is giving good returns to the owner.

Normal manure of cow and other organic manure was used for the tree. Even the owner himself is surprised to see the yield on this tree. In addition to selling coconuts, oil is also being extracted which gives double profit to the owner.

The species of the coconut tree is not known yet. The Horticultural department officials have informed that they will inspect and let the owner know. In the meantime, many people have taken the plants that are grown from the coconuts of the said tree. Some have even ordered 500 plants to be made ready.

According to Vinay, a member of the family, it is better to take plants from them rather than bringing from other places where the yield will be low. If this breed is distributed throughout the state, there will be revolution in coconut agriculture in Karnataka.

Coquito nuts Coquito nuts are also known as Baby coconuts, Miniature coconuts, Cockernuts, Dwarf coconuts, Pygmy coconuts, and Monkey's coconuts, and though unrelated botanically to coconuts, the nuts are favored for their similarity in appearance and flavor to coconuts. We had a coconut tree yielding such produce so small the size hardly 20 ml sweet water inside. With the hard shell people used to make snuff container. Believe it or not😲

I wonder how the tree is holding such heavy weight! There is a possibility that this tree life span could be less compared to other coconut trees which yeild normal range of coconuts. For every pros there are cons.

Cynthia, go ahead and plant 100 coconut trees. You can earn at least 20 lakhs per annum, which can be your net saving. No income tax, being agricultural income. Majority of Indians in Canada, cannot save this much amount, after paying rent (if no house of their own), heating/air conditioning, car fuel, food and clothing. My sincere suggestion to you.
