Buddhade Dasgupta Receives Award for 'Janala'

Kolkata, March 7 (IANS) National Award winning filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta has received the best feature film award he won at Taipei's Asia Pacific Film Festival for his Bengali movie "Janala" (The Window).

"I had got the information earlier that my film had received the award. But I couldn't attend the award ceremony as I was occupied with some work. So they had sent the award to the directorate of film festivals under the information and broadcasting ministry. Day before yesterday (Friday), I got the award," Dasgupta told IANS.

The movie revolves around an urban couple Bimal (Indraneil Sengupta) and Meera (Swastika Mukherjee). On a visit to his old school, Bimal witnesses the dilapidated condition of the building, especially a window, through which he once used to look outside.

He decides to gift the school with a new window without informing his fiancee. The headmaster of the school, which is under the grip of village politicians, is annoyed by Bimal's gift and rejects it.

The film, produced by Reliance Big Pictures, has already been premiered in the Masters of World Cinema section at Toronto International Film Festival. It has also been screened at London Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival, Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, the Dubai Film Festival and many other film fests.

The film has already received critical appreciation from audiences across the globe.
