Mangaluru, Jun 7: The chief traffic warden officer of Mangaluru, Sureshnath, on Monday June 6 expressed that the need for traffic wardens, stands to be one of the essential areas of concern in respect to the rapid increase in vehicles thereby posing traffic problems.

The Traffic Wardens Organization (TWO) is a government approved, non-paid organization that functions solely for one purpose, easing uncontrolled and chaotic traffic situations at various areas in the city. The chief traffic warden also requested people to voluntarily join the organization for this thoughtful initiative. He informed that this organization was absolutely independent of the government and volunteers join hands in reducing the traffic problems. “The eligibility criteria involves a person to be of minimum 25 years of age, must speak English and other local languages for conversing with the public in ease and most importantly, must be physically fit and is required to produce a medical certificate to prove the same,” he informed.

Sureshnath informed that it would not earn any benefits neither from the organization nor the government and that people can join on their own individual interest. “One is required to dedicate two hours or more for this cause each day. The area can be anything they choose,” he said.

“We will provide training on it as well. We are seeking to receive funds from the CSR and other organizations. After six months of service, they could even receive benefits depending on their service, such as; health care check-ups, medical incentives and others. We need to get more members to help us with the cause and assist policemen. Apart this, we also conduct traffic awareness camps at school level,” said Sureshnath.

He further said that they would not enjoy any other power and would be suspended if they behave impolitely with the public.

Those who are interested to join hands with TWO.

Thanks for your views and opinion, it's true that the police department should have, must have been doing the job, and they are paid for it, govt should have appointed many more people in the department, all said and done, now the reality, for some reason, we are having the situation that we need to help ourselves., as the adage goes self help is the best help. whatever service one can contribute to help his own/her own fellow being would go a long way in making our own life better on this Earth. If Bangalore can have Drs, Doctorates, Professors, Engineers, Bankers, IT/HR people, 1000 + traffic wardens, why can't we have at least 100 strong committed, dedicated people out of 7.3 lakh population (2022) in Mangalore city. They are 35 years old organization , we are yet to start ,let's try to be optimistic, positive and pro active. hope before i, call it it a day/ before i kick the bucket, i would be able to see the Mangalore Traffic Warden, a functional, productive organization. i believe in the saying ..... journey of thousand miles starts with the first step. please pass the good word and support the movement....... by the people, of the people and for the people. THANK YOU ALL... Prof. Sureshnath, Chief Traffic Warden.

This is a dumb idea. I am sure people will take this law into their own hands and no one will be accountable. What if goons start overpowering civilians as per thier wish. Are you going to verify and train them?? Please hire people to work instead of expecting things to done for free. Or talk to the ministers and pay these people or provide them with benefits . Nothing in life is free & no one is foolish to work and get nothing out of it.

I think the traffic system is very bad in Mangalore. First of all set up of traffic system must change. Since 30 years same system. First of all they must shieft the service bus stand to Pumpwell. Building which marked for parking, shopes have come up. Automatically people keep the vehicles on the road side. This traffic island has spoiled the traffic system. Near the school Zone, one way traffic system must introduce 1 hour before school, college starts . We need educated and literate persons in Mangalore administration. That's all.

This is a good initiative..however does this mean failure of capacity planning by Govt and it does not know how many places they have to control traffic? or is it that the govt has failed to motivate their own men who are mostly corrupt themselves. Our RTO is a hot bed of corruption . I see many retired persons working in important junctions in the city controlling traffic ..they carry a smile and are helpful ..my salute to them ..they do a good job at nanthoor highway ..Maybe the govt should equip them with radio sets for communication amongst themselves to coordinate traffic movement in important junctions where multiple entries and exits are there.

why the govt employees are there? only for bharti? same is happening in cleaning campaigns...people who are recruited for the job are doing some other business...these things are never heard and seen in other developed counties....corruption has to stop and everyone has to do his or her duty...
