Kaup: Major tragedy averted by toll gate personnel, locals after tanker tyre bursts, catches fire

Kaup, Jun 17: A major tragedy was averted by alert toll gate personnel and locals as they were able to put off the fire that caught in a tanker transporting hydrochloric acid as it caught fire after its tyre burst on NHCC near Katapadi petrol bunk on Thursday June 16.

The tanker was carrying hydrochloric acid from Maharashtra to Mangaluru. As it reached Katapadi petrol bunk, one of its tyre burst and the vehicle suddenly caught fire. Fortunately, the tollgate personnel were on rounds and noticed the mishap. They quickly got into the act and put off the fire with the help of locals.

National highway safety officer Shailesh Shetty and Manohar Hejmady were also involved in the rescue act. Video of the rescue operation is viral on social media and netizens have appreciated the presence of mind of toll gate personnel and locals.
