New Delhi, June 17: The increase in the age limit for recruitment into defence forces under the 'Agneepath' scheme from 21 to 23 years proves Prime Minister Narendra Modi regime’s sensitivity to the needs of people, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Delhi on Friday, June 17.

The Chief Minister said the recruitment process in the armed forces was affected in the last two years due to the Covid pandemic and the Prime Minister has relaxed the upper age limit for recruitment in the first year of recruitment from 21 to 23 years.

“It will benefit a large number of youth. They will march gloriously on the path of service to the motherland and carve a bright future for themselves. I thank the Prime Minister on behalf of the youth of the country," Bommai said in a tweet thanking the Prime Minister.

Responding to questions, Bommai said the protests and violent incidents in different parts of the country shows that the agitating youth were misguided.

Bommai called on Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhavat and discussed various issues pertaining to the State’s irrigation projects and sought the minister’s help in getting cabinet approval for the release of funds following the Union government’s decision to accord national project status to the Upper Krishna Project.

He said the State Government urged the Centre to ensure that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in respect of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project was accorded at the earliest as the project was aimed at meeting the drinking water requirements of Bengaluru city.

The Chief Minister also said the State Government expected the Group of Ministers meeting on GST to benefit the State. Prior to the meeting, Bommai also held discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sithamaraman.

State Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary ISN Prasad, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad, Commerce Department Commissioner C Shikha and other senior officials accompanied the Chief Minister.

Answering questions from media persons, Bommai said he was not scheduled to meet any national leaders in Delhi as BJP National President JP Nadda was himself visiting Bengaluru on Saturday.

what sensitivity, Bommai? give your brain some exercise! Can you imagine an army of unemployed 22-27 years olds let loose in the country after the 4year stint.? How is it any better than contract military labor? You and Modi will not be around then to face the music of this foolhardy plan.

Agnipath scheme of armed force recruitment is final nail in the coffin . If implemented it will severely compromise security and war preparedness of Bharat. Nadamo has already destroyed all institutions built after independence of India in 1947.
