Bengaluru, June 24: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D K Shivakumar lashed out at the lopsided priorities of the BJP and accused the ruling party of giving more importance and priority to its leaders rather than the people.

Speaking to media persons near his residence in Bengaluru on Thursday, he said the Basavaraj Bommai government did not bother when people suffered due to potholes on the roads and the media highlighted the issues. However, when the ruling party leaders came to visit the City the potholes on the roads of their visit were immediately filled up and the roads were asphalted.

“Evidently, the ruling party leaders are more important and deserve higher priority than ordinary citizens. The government is not bothered about the problems or welfare of the people," he said.

Shivakumar pointed out that the BJP leaders had displayed huge flex banners and posters all over the city when the Prime Minister visited the city when cases were filed against Congress leaders for displaying flex banners. ``This is he double standards of BJP,’’ he said.

The KPCC Chief lashed out at the BBMP Commissioner and City Police Commissioner for allowing BJP to display flex banners and flags all over the city when the same authorities had issued a notice to Congress party for displaying cut-outs inside the Padmanabhanagar Congress party office.

He attacked the Enforcement Directorate officials for interrogating Rahul Gandhi for five days continuously, which is nothing but politics of vendetta.

The KPCC Chief said the chargesheet in the case pertaining to him must have been filed three years back which has not been done. Now, the government has given permission to CBI to probe the assets case against me. ``I have submitted all the records. They have issued notices to 5 persons. We will respond appropriately,’’ he said and mentioned that he has been asked to appear before ED on July 1.

“I have received bail from the Supreme Court. However, I will obey the summons and appear before the ED. Let them do whatever they want,’’ he said.

To a question on the meeting convened by former Congress minister MR Sitharam, the KPCC chief refused to comment and simply said it is not a party meeting.

Asked about Revenue Minister R Ashok’s statement that mistakes had been made in the text books during the Siddaramaiah rule, Shivakumar wanted to know why Ashok and BJP leaders remained silent and registered their opposition. It is not just Congress leaders but ordinary people are questioning the blunders in the text books, he said.

Shivakumar later inaugurated the party’s programme, “Naa Nayaki,’’ of Congress women workers in Ballari through Zoom and declared that the party would take all steps to strengthen and empower women.
