Bangalore: Bubbly Actress Ramya Quits Sandalwood in Rage
Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (VA)
Bangalore, Mar 18: Following her spat with producer A Ganesh, charming sandalwood actress Ramya has decided to retire from the industry.
The collective ambush by many film-makers alleging that she was irresponsible and unprofessional took a toll on her and prompted her to announce her retirement from films. Ramya, who feels that even a decade in the industry hasn’t brought people to respect her enough, says, “I hope it will be a lesson. No other girl should suffer in this industry.”
It seems that Ramya does not want to be in the eye of the storm any more. On Tuesday, the actress failed to show up for the audio release of her film, Dhandam Dhashagunam (DD), and instead chose to go furniture shopping, according to the film's producer A. Ganesh, The producer lodged a complaint against Ramya on Wednesday at the Karnataka Film Chamber, after which she was given 48 hours to respond to the complaint and comply with Ganesh's requests to promote the film.
However, Ramya took to her micro-blogging account to address the issue. "I don't wish to work anymore cos (sic) I have no strength left in me to fight. My life span only got shorter. I am taking voluntary retirement from this industry. I will start afresh, and look ahead. A new life beckons," she tweeted on Wednesday.
Ramya also alleged that she lent Ganesh money, which he has still not returned to her. "Mr ganesh where is my money you borrowed from me and avoided my calls for 6 months?? I still have the documents with me you signed saying you will return it in a month," she added.
Ramya says, “I am not the sort who does not promote my own films. I have a valid reason here for not attending that function. Ganesh didn’t respond to my calls nor did he give me an idea on when he would return the money I had lent him. I have a letter from him stating that he borrowed money from me to complete the film. Rather than deal with issues, he’s gone all out to use my name for publicity.” She’s even given him a 48-hour deadline to settle her dues, which she posted on Twitter.
Ramya's decision to retire has given rise to speculation as to whether she is quitting acting altogether or just Sandalwood, especially since she didn't attend the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana last week. The rumour is that she is going to work full-time in another southern industry, as she has been attending functions for other film industries.
