Konkani Jagruthi Abhiyan Aims at Language Development

Mangalore, Mar 19: It is apparent that English language is inevitable while to deal in global level and with people of other state, but not at the cost of mother tongue. Konkani is a culturally rich language. Strengthening Konkani which spoken by lacs of people is the very much need of the present period. The government also agreed to provide 5 crore grant for the betterment of the language, said BJP leader Shreekar Prabhu.
He spoke after inaugurating the Konkani Jagruthi Abhiyana organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Konkani Prachar Sanchalan at Kulshekar Kaikamba market on Saturday March 19. He handed over the Konkani flag to Lorens D’Souza and symbolically inaugurated the campaign.
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino speaking on the occasion said that “we all know local languages are threatened by English. Even Konkani is not exception. It is a challenge for us to retain and improve Konkani. No other language can be replaced the status of mother tongue. Other language is just meant for communication purpose, whereas mother tongue is a medium to express the inner feeling, he said. Konkani in Schools is great step. With this the new generation will be able to learn Konkani in school, he added.
Prachar Sanchalan Secretary Dr Edward Nazrath, Academy former president Erick Ozario, Mandd Sobhann president Louis Pinto, writer Rony Crasta, Stany Alwaris, Naveen Lobo, Titus Noronha, Victor Mathias among others were present. Registrar S H Shivarudrappa delivered vote of thanks.
