Udupi, Mar 21: Political parties are formed and nurtured by veterans in order to serve the people and not for trading. “The party activists are expected to understand the significance of this to work in unity,” said BJP state president K S Eshwarappa.
He was speaking after inaugurating the convention of the heads of BJP power center held at Hafsa auditorium, Udyavar, by Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of the BJP.
“BJP supports ordinary party activists who have no tag of corruption and favoritism when contesting polls,” said Eshwarappa. “If such a person wins the polls and comes to power with the efforts of party activists and thereafter turns corrupt, he will tarnish the image of the BJP,” he added.
He urged the party activists to support honest representatives in contesting the polls in the future to improve the party’s image.
Eshwarappa denied any scope for those partymen involved in anti-party activities. “It’s owing to this that 16 MLAs were disqualified in the legislative assembly recently,” he added.
Udupi district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, BJP leader Bhanu Prakash, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, former Karkala MLAs Sunil Kumar, Rukmaya Poojary and Pratap Nayak, and Udupi district BJP chief secretary Ravi Amin were present on the occasion.
