Mangaluru, Jul 2: City police bid adieu to DCP law and order Hariram Shankar at the police commissioner’s office here on Saturday July 2.

Hariram Shankar has been transferred to Hassan as superintendent of police. Anshu Kumar Srivastav is the new DCP law and order of Mangaluru city.

Cops of Mangaluru city shared opinion about Hariram Shankar and said, “During his tenure of 2 years as DCP law and order, Hariram Shankar has maintained law and order successfully in Mangaluru. As a cop, Hariram Shankar is known for his leadership, dedication, discipline and at the same time he has built good rapport with the public and gained their confidence. He has been an inspiration for the way he has been working. Hariram always showed concern towards subordinates and staffs. We are looking forward to working with you again and wish to see you as police commissioner of Mangaluru.”

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “As DCP law and order Hariram Shankar delivered his best and handled every situation well. He is a unique officer who has built good rapport with the public and media. Hariram has been posted as SP of Hassan, a huge responsibility as it is a huge district with 30 police stations under him. Most of the time we cannot live up to the expectations of the public, I am confident that Hariram will live up to the expectations of the public where he will put in a lot of efforts and serve the public. Anshu Kumar will fill Hariram’s place as DCP law and order and I assure, the working culture will continue as it is now.”

In a parting shot, Hariram Shankar said, “More than SP of Hassan, I would love to call myself as DCP law and order of Hassan as I have built an attachment with that post. Undoubtedly, all the staff and subordinates of Mangaluru city police commissionerate have supported me a lot. There was a need to address administrative grievances that will motivate our officers. I got instructions from the cops of my batch that I need to follow the working style of police commissioner N Shashi Kumar in how he handles the situation. During my tenure as DCP, as a group, we have controlled illegal activities such as explosives, drugs in large quantities and I am proud of the way inspectors have intelligently worked. It would be successful if it could be replicated in Hassan.”

“The media in Mangaluru has enormously supported me, and the police commissioner has given me equal space in front of the media,” he added.

“I tried following the ideologies of the late Madhukar Shetty, although we cannot follow cent percent. Madhukar Shetty always said that if we are cent percent we can be called a bad officer. He always told us to know the ground level reality and work to protect the staffs and subordinates. If I ever get a chance again to serve at Dakshina Kannada I will definitely love to work here again,” Hariram Shankar said.

DCP law and order Anshu Kumar, DCP crime and traffic Dinesh Kumar and others were present.

ACP traffic Geetha Kulkarni compered the event, welcomed and rendered the vote of thanks.

As a DCP of Mangaluru, Hariram served as a people-friendly officer. He was an inspiration for many youths through his oratory skills on several occasions. During his tenure, Hariram strived hard and was successful in maintaining law and order in the city.

Hariram, who is from Thrissur, Kerala, had joined service as a probationary ASP at Athani in Belgaum district. He completed two months of second phase training in Hyderabad and assumed charge as ASP of Kundapur. He is a Mechanical engineering graduate from NIT, Calicut and attempted the civil services examination later.
