Mumbai, Mar 21: The conferring ceremony of Karki Venkataramana Shastry Soori Award – 2011 was held by the metro-based Havyaka Welfare Trust under the aegis of Karnataka Malla, Kannada daily at Dr M Vishveshvarayya auditorium of Karnataka Sangh, Matunga (West) here on Sunday March 20.
Metropolitan senior police officer Prakash B Bhandary inaugurated the programme. Havyaka Welfare Trust president N R Hegade presided.
Kannada litterateur professor Dharanendra Kurkuri, Karnataka Sangh president Dr G D Joshi, Karnataka Malla, Kannada daily editor Chandrashekar Palettady, litterateur Shimunje Parari and Kannada Kala Kendra – Mumbai president B Balachandra Rao among others were the guests of honour.
Karki Venkataramana Shastry Award – 2011 was conferred on Kannada litterateur and well known journalist Vigneshwar Sharma Taddalasa on the occasion.
Satish Kumar K C welcomed the gathering. Rashmi S Kumar rendered the prayers. Amitha Bhagavat highlighted the literary contributions of Karki Venkataramana. Havyaka Welfare Trust honorary secretary N R Ahadas and Shashikala Hegade compered the programme. Tanuja Hegade proposed the vote of thanks.
Gadayudda, Badagutittu style of Yakshagana play was staged by the artistes of Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Kala Kendra, besides dance recital by Priyanjali Rao and Vaishnavi Shetty and Sugama Sangeet programme by Kala Souraba music troupe which was directed by Padmanabha Sasihitlu.
