Bengaluru, Jul 12: Commencing his aerial inspection of the rain affected and flood-hit districts in the State, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday assured that the State Government will stand behind the people suffering due to heavy rains and floods and will extend a helping hand.

Speaking to media persons at the Mysuru airport on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said he said the district in charge ministers will take everybody into confidence and involve all in the relief works.

In Udupi, minister S Angara and V Sunil Kumar in Mangaluru, Kota Srinivasa Poojary in Uttara Kannada and S T Somashekar in ST Somasekar in Mysuru district are actively involved in visiting the affected places and helping the people, Bommai said and pointed out that Revenue Minister R Ashok has already visited Kodagu district.

“The entire State Government is involved in the relief and rehabilitation task,’’ the Chief Minister said and added: “I am starting my inspection and review of the situation.’’

Bommai said State Government is doing its best to help the people of Kogadu, especially those who suffered loved ones and also property damages. Precautionary measures are being taken in the danger-prone as well as seismic zones, which witnessed mild tremors recently, he said.

The Chief Minister said Rs 730 crore was available with National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) and it will be utilised. ``The Centre will be appraised of the situation and details of property damages and losses to standing crops will be submitted after conducting surveys,’’ he said pointing out that preliminary surveys and estimates have been done so far.

“We will submit a detailed report on the damages and losses to the Centre after conducting the final assessments,’’ he said.

Bommai said some houses had been damaged during the recent mild tremors experienced in Kodagu district and the exact extent of losses will be assessed before sending a report to the Centre.

In the north Karnataka region, he said people in as many as 63 villages have been displaced and relocated. The relocation work is pending in some villages.

“We have sought expert opinion on shifting people near river beds and for preparing a suitable rehabilitation package,’’ he said.

Answering questions, the Chief Minister said the BJP core committee has decided that those who had served in the Boards and Corporations for one and half years or more will be replaced with newcomers as part of the plans to given opportunities to more people.

Meeting at Madikeri DC's office

The CM held a meeting on the losses incurred by rain at the Madiker DC's office on Tuesday. Ministers R Ashok, C C Patil, Sunil Kumar V, legislator K G Bopaiah and MP Pratap Simha participated in the meeting.

I too remember what you said. You only said that mangala bar road connects to Mangaluru. Mangala hotel cashier Mr.joseph expired today ( around 75 yrs) ...you must be knowing him since you are from there. In the meanwhile, i remember you were saying about your residence in one of the flats near bendorewell junction. This you said in reference to the news about auto drivers who do not take passengers evenin emergency if they dont like to go. You said you waited for a long time at the junction to go to kankanady (most probably for medication if i am not wrong)₩

Let me quote in toto what our honorable CM said (as reported here) - Quote "When people suffer due to floods, Govt will stand behind them", Behind people means... doing nothing but seeing them get washed away in flood...., while there is an honest confession about truth & fact., Govt is just stand behind & watching people loose everything.., (not sure where 40% gets accounted)
