Udupi: Incessant rains damage several houses, constructions in Karkala

Udupi, Jul 12:  The incessant rains that lashed the Karkala taluk resulted in damage to several houses and other properties in many areas.

The house belonging to Uday Acharya in Kukkundoor village is damaged by  nearly 25 percent. The wall of the house belonging to Vaarija Poojary also collapsed  and the damage is estimated at nearly 75 percent. The residents have been shifted to safer places.

The wall of the house belonging to Jagadish Shetty in Kanagi, Hirgana collapsed and cracks were found on the wall. He has incurred a loss of nearly Rs 3 lac.

A building belonging to Gopal Nayak in Golipalke of Kadthala village also was demolished by rains. The retaining wall of a well belonging to Jayaram of Nitte village also collapsed.

    At least now that Bommbai has promised Rs 5 lakhs, these people can build their broken walls and be safe. I hope he follow through on his promise. They will have such a tough time in keeping their families and belongings safe.

    Why so much of destruction not seen in yesteryears? It's happening now because of sloppy infrastructure, concretization and rampant felling of trees leading to flash flooding!!

    Rudolf R.Mumbai these houses were built only with mud and no sand or stones to support.Ages ago built and never repaired.Rain has made it more porous.Mud underneath as a base too has become so soft.Rains are washing sinces ages on walls ,every year ,now become without strength.People have no money to renew or build better.
