Kundapur: Land encroachers block thoroughfares between villages, locals urge for action

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (HB/SS)

Kundapur, Jul 14: A private individual has encroached the road that leads the way from Shettarakatte of Gulvady village in the taluk to Badamane Bagalahadi Chorabettu region and villagers have been staging protests since the last two-and-a-half years and complaints filed against the individual with the government officials.

In this connection, a legislative council committee has taken notice of the complaint.

Tahsildar of Kundapura taluk, Kiran Goraiah along with revenue inspector Raghavendra have paid visits to the location and had even ordered eviction of the encroached property on June 9 and June 28 was fixed as the date to clear the encroachments. Locals say that as per this order village accountant and panchayat officers along with representatives had visited the location to conduct the eviction process.

However, the revenue inspector stood in support of the private party in the name of clearing the encroachment and instead closed the footpath or trail thus further inconveniencing the locals, villagers alleged.

It is said that due to this move at least 30 houses including seven belonging to the scheduled castes are left with no alternative route to reach their homes. Also, this has affected free movement of agricultural goods and implements. It is said that the Revenue department had acted under pressure from some quarters and stopped clearances of the encroachments half way through the process. Trees are on the verge of falling on Basava Poojary's house of Gulvady village where the family has a pregnant woman who is living in fear for this reason.

Locals are now demanding that suitable action should be taken with the intervention of tahsildar although the revenue inspector had come forward to clear the encroachments.
