Beary Art, Literature, Language Awards Conferred at Glittering Ceremony

Mangalore, Mar 27: The annual awards instituted by Beary Sahitya Academy for the year 2010 were conferred on K P Abdul Khader Kuthethur (Beary literature), Muhammad Maripalla (Beary language) and Rahim B C Road (Beary art) for their meritorious works at a ceremony held in Town Hall here on Sunday March 27. Each award comprised Rs 10,000 cash, a citation and a memento.
Speaking after giving away the awards, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy has contributed considerably towards the preservation of local language. He lauded the academy for making the best use of the funds granted by the state government by organizing as many as 46 programmes in all. He noted that Beary Sahitya Academy is unique due to its pro-cultural functions.
U T Khader, MLA, who was the chief guest said that the academy had organized a meaningful programme by honouring deserving achievers.
Dr Thalthaje Vasanth Kumar, retired head, Kannada department, Mumbai University, who was also the chief guest, said that in order to achieve cultural diversity all varieties of culture should be given equal importance, rather than hyping merely any one major culture.
Ambathanaya Mudradi, president, Udupi Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishad presided. M B Abdul Rehman delivered the keynote address. Umarabba welcomed the gathering. Abdul Razaq Ananthady compered the programme. Kallur Nagesh, who designed 10 Beary books was also felicitated on the occasion.
Beary skit, mono acting, elocution and cooking competitions were conducted from 9.30 am. Later in the evening, Moon Star Oppane Paat and state-level prize-winning Kalakumbha Samskrithika Vedike Kulia team performed Beary and Tulu folk dance programmes.
