Landslides in all Ghats: Demand for additional train between Mangaluru-Bengaluru increases

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Due to landslides in NH 75 Shiradi Ghat and alternative routes of Charmadi, Sampaje, Agumbe, connectivity by road to Bengaluru from the city is in jeopardy. Train is the only mode that seems to be safe during monsoon.

Public and various organizations have already appealed to introduce more train services to Bengaluru from coastal region.

At present Mangaluru-Kannur train runs four days in a week which passes through Mangaluru-Bengaluru-Mangaluru. Gomateshwara express runs three days a week and via Mysuru runs three days a week. Panchaganga express runs through Padil.

At least one additional night and day trains are required to manage the rush. In addition, the Mysuru bound train should run every day. More bogies have to be added to Kannur-Bengaluru express which has 16 compartments now.

West coast train travel development committee president Hunumantha Kamath said the railway department should respond quickly to the additional train requirement of coastal region during monsoon and people representatives have to put pressure.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav and appealed to introduce additional trains to Bengaluru from Mangaluru. Kateel said that the minister responded positively to his appeal.

So, those demanding this, are confident that landslide will not affect train lines this year? Look every opportunity to complain and make news based on it? Wait for August (2 weeks) and everything will be fine. I somehow feel that we should be tolerant to Nature's fury, rather than trust man (contractor, cost, greed and science if it suits the narrative) made science to create another major trouble whilst solving one silly problem.

Vested interests/ lobbying --- do not want this to happen-- i,e More frequency of trains -- can have all year round more trains -- Train journey -less stressful -- more safe -- Than buses -- also --no check in time -- like airports -- trains go directly to city centre -- most airports are far from city -- various other conveniences -- food served etc etc -- Of course the Train journey time can easily be reduced -- needless stops -- wasting time at unknown places -- signal etc -- Today average Train speed which is not High speed rail -- is 100 kms / hour -- HSR is approx 200 kms / hour -- and can leave out bullet train as not commercially viable -- Our trains are moving average at 30 kms/ hr -- (Now except ghats Trains will move slow )- -- but rest of distance can surely speed up --

It is very necessary to run more trains to Bangalore from coastal towns... It is a comfortable journey and much cheaper too... Airfares are forbiddingly expensive... Railways must reorganize idle route trains to this route on priority... Local MPs and MLAs are only scratching in a corner when it comes to innovative thinking for the benefit of the people who voted them...

One more vista dome coach train should be added on the route so that it can run daily instead of alternate days.
