Mangaluru: Fishing activity commences in port at Bunder after 1.5 months

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 25: Fishing activity has commenced in the fishing port of the city at Bunder. Traditional fishing boats are returning to the port and the auctions are in progress.

It is still 10 days away before the mechanized fishing boats get down to the sea. However, due to heavy rains and high tide in the sea, traditional fishermen could carry out their fishing activity in the month of June and during the first half of July. Now they are making the most of it.

Fish from the other states are arriving at the sea port. Mainly, the fish arrives from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala etc. But these are kept in ice and are not fresh. However, the demand is always there. Mostly Mackerel and Sardines arrive from the other states. Mackerel from Andhra and Sardine from Tamil Nadu are quite tasty.

Traditonal fishermen are now catching white prawns in plenty. The price is around Rs 400 per kg in addition they also get small amounts of mackerels and sardines besides Nang, Kalluru and crabs.

A fish merchant in sea port says that the rate of fish varies from morning till evening in the market as plenty of fish arrive from local traditional fishermen as well as from the other states.

Cynthia Bangude & Boothai may be from different States but the sea where hey breed and multiply may not bear any major taste difference. After all all from sea water. Once you commented that Bannur Mutton is tasty or tender but how to identify ? Pork we can easily differentiate whether local or Ghati (from the fat thickness)

Even bannur mutton can be identified Flavs. Local one is more red in colour and full of bones. But, bannur looks different. While cooking also bannur cooks fast. Even fish too. I heard before also many a times, sardines which come from tamilnadu are tasty especially during rainy season....I have tasted them. They wont be fresh because it comes from there. They call it gundu bhutaay. What we get here more thorny and not tasty. Our local sardines are very narrow near the tail ....There is difference in taste. I think during rainy season when fish lay eggs may not be tasty. Tamilnadu rainy season October/November....Just two days one of my neighbors said the mackerels what she bought were tasty....Andhra too this is not rainy season.

Eggs and chicken prices are falling and elakki banana is increasing. Does it mean that in Shravan, one can eat fish but not chicken? What is the economic sense behind this commencement? Blame Modi for price drop of fish? If it makes economic sense, do blame, but it defies logic..:-)
