Mangalore, Apr 1: Unknown thieves gained entry into the house of Ibrahim at K C Road near Talapady here on the night of Thursday March 31, and returned richer by over Rs 10 lac in the form of gold ornaments.
Ibrahim works in Qatar, and his family lives in a house that is closely surrounded by many other houses. On account of the marriage of a close family member, about 21 people stayed at Ibrahim’s home overnight on Thursday. Even as so many people were sleeping, the thieves could take away gold ornaments weighing about 75 sovereigns.
The thieves entered the house by breaking open the backdoor, which is weak. They entered a room where about nine persons were sleeping, and opened the cupboard with the help of keys kept there. They then took away gold ornaments worth about Rs 10 lac.
It is strange that in spite of so many people sleeping in the house, none of them got alerted even as strangers broke open the back door, entered the room, opened the cupboard, and took away the ornaments kept there. The policemen have registered a case and begun investigation. Although there is suspicion that some Tamil-speaking professional thieves were behind the act, no definite clues are so far available about the identity of the thieves, it is gathered.
