M'lore: Concerned Locals Get 'Car'ried Away, Generous Act Back'fires'

Mangalore, Apr 1: Talk of enthusiasm to help going on an 'overdrive,' and that's exactly what happened in the middle of a road at Adyar here on Thursday April 1.
It could well have been a scene out of a comedy movie, only, it wasn't comical to the person whose car went up in flames.
A car developed some problem while on its way from BC road to the city, and the engine caught fire. The driver immediately jumped out of the car and rushed to safety.
The locals who witnessed the scene, in their eagerness to help the hapless driver, tried to put out the fire using water, soil, branches and whatever they could lay their hands on. However, fearing that the LNG cylinder in the vehicle may explode any time, they chose to do their bit from a fair distance. One of them even tried to disconnect the gas kit.
A few of them, whose attention was focussed only on the fire, tried to force open the doors of the car with iron rods and also smashed the bonnet, and all the while the bewildered owner looked on in utter astonishment. The result - the car ended up looking like a piece of junk, while the helpers, happy that they managed to douse the fire, coolly pushed the car to the edge of the road and disappeared!
And like the anti-climax of any Indian movie, the fire brigade and the police arrived at the scene soon after the 'heroes' had done their job!
Nevertheless, the locals ought to be hailed for their concern, notwithstanding the damage they caused in the process.
