Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrives to a rousing welcome in Hubballi

Hubballi, Aug 3 (IANS): Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Tuesday night from the national capital to participate in a slew of party programmes.

Congress workers who swarmed Hubballi airport gave a rousing welcome to the Gandhi scion.

Rahul Gandhi came here along with Karnataka Congress president D.K. Shivakumar, Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, and K.C. Venugopal.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Opposition leader in Council B.K. Hariprasad and other top leaders were present and extended a warm welcome to their leader.

Rahul Gandhi will chair the Political Affairs Committee meeting in Hubballi with state Congress leaders and address the issue of internal conflict between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar camps which is threatening to pose a challenge to the Congress party's prospects in the upcoming assembly elections in 2023.

Party workers are hopeful that Rahul Gandhi would look into the simmering discontent between both leaders who have their eyes on the chief ministerial post.

Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to visit Sri Muruga Rajendra Mutt in Chitradurga and then participate in a public meeting to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Siddaramaiah in Davanagere city on Wednesday.

    Why cant Congress have some young new face than these 2 warring oldies, for the CM? More than 75% of the voters are born after the 80s and simply cannot relate to these old strategies or comprehend what they are saying. To this day its not clear what the partys manifesto is and how different they are from other parties. When queried, its only 'Modi Bashing'! Come on!

    If Rahul Gandhi had any sense, he would take this opportunity and announce himself as the CM candidate for Karnataka in the next elections. This will stop the tension between S & S and Rahul will get to learn how to administer a State before trying to launch himself again for the big post. Everyone knows that RG has no chance in becoming PM in 2024 - at current rate Congress will lose the only 2 States that it's in power. Even if RG becomes PM he'll be treated and mocked as a puppet by all, even within his own party. Arrogance killed a Congress victory in 2014 and incompetence in 2019. There's no shame in being a CM - people get to see how you function and solve issues. Modi has several years of experience as CM, and the other likely candidate Kejriwal has made his mark in Delhi. With zero experience, RG along with Congress will fade away after 2024, if he fails to take bold steps now.

    This is the right time and Golden opportunity Boss. Instill within you some courage, sportiveness and some oratory skills and you can attract peoples attention. Act like a National hero do not give up. Also take Priyanka with you. People have not forgotten or forsaken Congress party. Time of the hour is people want to get rid of Agents of Rightwing activists and communal based BD & immoral police in the society. We want a secular government and not the supporters of jungle, communal forces to govern us.

    Nothing wrong with Rahul... He is projected in bad light and as a joker by BJP IT Cell... If you all notice there is only mocking of his ways of appearance and talks... No one has questioned his integrity as a human being... Tides of time will change and all the mud slinging will be in public domain... His intentions are genuine and he is well read unlike the ones who attack him...
