Mangalore: 3,800 Screened So Far at Army Recruitment Rally in City

Mangalore, Apr 6: The Mangala Stadium in Mangalore was filled with candidates from Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada, Kodagu, Shimoga, Hassan, Udupi, Davangere, Chikmagalur, Chitradurga, Bijapur and Dharwad districts who had arrived for the Army Recruitment rally. This is the first rally of recruiting year 2011-12 of the recruiting cycle 2010-2012.
Brigadier M M Gupta, YSM Deputy Director General (States) HQ Recruiting Zone, Bangalore told that till date there were 3,800 candidates who had been screened.
Addressing the pressperons he said that the rally was being held to recruit candidates for Soldier (General duty), Soldier (Technical), Soldier (Nursing Assistant), Soldier (Clerk/SKT) for districts of Karnataka state.
He added that the rally is being organized with absolute transparency under full media and public glare.
The candidates initially put through a physical fitness test, in which they are made to run a distance of one mile, do pull ups, jump across a nine feet ditch and walk across a horizontal bar. They are then physically examined for height, weight, and chest and finally medical examined. The successful candidates would subsequently be made to undertake a written exam and those who come in merit would be enrolled in the army, he detailed.
Stating that the Army provides equal opportunity for youth from rural areas he said hence rallies are organized in various districts of the state. Brigadier appealed to the candidates and their parents not to fall prey to touts who claim to provide jobs in the army by taking a huge sum of money.
The rally has been organized by army recruiting office (Mangalore) with the help of civil administration.
The rally will continue till April 10. The selected candidates will have to appear for a written test to be held. The date of written test will be announced at rally site at the time of issue of admit cards.
